Waldenburg, Baden-Württemberg
Waldenburg is a hilltop town in south central Germany, eastwards of Heilbronn in the Hohenlohe (district) of Baden-Württemberg. The town is the site of Waldenburg Castle and some hilltop churches. Records first mention Waldenburg in the year 1253, but the town was destroyed in April 1945, at the end of World War II, and it has been rebuilt since. Waldenburg, Saxony
Waldenburg is a town in the district Zwickau in Saxony, Germany. The castle was owned by the House of Schönburg from 1378 until 1945. The pottery town of Waldenburg lies in the valley of the Zwickauer Mulde. The environment is characterized by forest areas, river meadows and the hilly landscape of the Erzgebirge foothills. Waldenburg was founded around 1254 and first documented in 1336 as the town of "Waldinberg". The German settlement of the area that later became Waldenburg began with the founding of the monastery in Remse in 1143. The construction of Waldenburg Castle took place between 1165 and 1172. It was built as a security post on the salt trade route at the Mulden crossing. The streets, buildings and remains of the town wall in the upper town still show Walsenburg's roots in the Middle Ages. Louis Waldenburg (31 July 1837 – 14 April 1881) was a German physician. Waldenburg was born in Filehne, Posen. He graduated from the University of Berlin (M.D. 1860). After a postgraduate course at Heidelberg he established himself in Berlin as a specialist in chest and throat diseases. From 1864 to 1868 he co-edited the ''Allgemeine Medizinische Central-Zeitung'' ''(General Medical Center Newspaper)''. In 1865 he earned the title of Privatdozent at Berlin University. From 1868 until his death he edited the ''Berliner Klinische Wochenschrift'' ''(Berlin Clinical Weekly)''. In 1871 he was appointed assistant professor, and in 1877 department physician, at the Charité hospital in Berlin.
