Waldemar Hoff
Leonard Waldemar Hoff (22 May 1886 – 16 July 1947) was a Norwegian railway director. He was hired in Norsk Hovedjernbane in 1906, and was a traffic inspector from 1916. In 1933 he was promoted to district director in Drammen, and in 1939 he was promoted to director-general of the Norwegian State Railways. During the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany he was deposed. He applied to get his position back after the occupation's end, but in 1946 he rescinded the claim as he was hired as regional director of the European Central Inland Transport Organization. He died in July 1947. In telecommunications, trunking is a technology for providing network access to multiple clients simultaneously by sharing a set of circuits, carriers, channels, or frequencies, instead of providing individual circuits or channels for each client. Vygruppen, branded as Vy, is a government-owned railway company which operates most passenger train services and many bus services in Norway. The company is owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport. Its sub-brands include Vy Buss coach services, CargoNet freight trains and the Swedish train transport company Tågkompaniet. In 2009, NSB carried 52 million train passengers and 104 million bus passengers. On 24 April 2019, passenger train and bus services were rebranded as Vy. Occupation Of Norway By Nazi Germany
The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany during the Second World War began on 9 April 1940 after Operation Weserübung. Conventional armed resistance to the German invasion ended on 10 June 1940, and Nazi Germany controlled Norway until the capitulation of German forces in Europe on 8 May 1945. Throughout this period, a pro-German government named Den nasjonale regjering (English: the National Government) ruled Norway, while the Norwegian king Haakon VII and the prewar government escaped to London, where they formed a government in exile. Civil rule was effectively assumed by the ''Reichskommissariat Norwegen'' (Reich Commissariat of Norway), which acted in collaboration with the pro-German puppet government. The European Central Inland Transport Organization or ECITOP was a short-lived United Nations agency founded in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War to: provide for the co-ordination both in the movement of traffic and the in the allocation of transport equipment and material with a view to ensuring the best possible movement of supplies both for military forces and the civil population and the speedy repatriation of displaced persons, and also with a view to creating conditions in which the normal movement of traffic can be more rapidly resumed upon both "the liberation of the territories of the United Nations" and "the occupation of the territories of the enemy" in Europe. ''Hvem er hvem?'' ( en, Who is Who?) was a Norwegian book series, presenting facts about notable persons from Norway. The first edition was issued in 1912, and the 14th edition came in 1994. In the 2008 edition, edited by Knut Olav Åmås, one thousand persons were selected for presentation.
