Waiter (film)
''Waiter'' ( nl, Ober) is a 2006 black comedy film by Alex van Warmerdam. It tells the story of Edgar, a discontented waiter. The film had its world premiere on the Toronto Film Festival on 10 September 2006. It was the opening film of the Netherlands Film Festival, where ''Waiter'' received two Golden Calves, for Best Scenario and Best Production Design. In January 2007 the film received a Golden Film. The film is about stagnation of creativity and a take on overbearing of elements in life, it also takes wryly a puck-shot at god and his relation with humans. Plot ''Waiter'' tells the story of Edgar (Alex van Warmerdam), a waiter with a flair for the unfortunate. His wife, Ilse (Sylvia Poorta) is sick is overly rude to him. Alex Van Warmerdam
Alex van Warmerdam (born 14 August 1952) is a Dutch screenwriter, film director, and actor. He is also a painter. Life and career Van Warmerdam was born in Haarlem, a city in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. He was cofounder of the theatre group Hauser Orkater (which later became the musictheatre group Orkater). In 1980, he founded the theatre group De Mexicaanse Hond (The Mexican Dog), together with his brother Marc van Warmerdam. This is the name under which all the shows since 1989 have been released. He made his first feature film in 1986: ''Abel''. He plays a role in each of his films so far, with the exception of Grimm (film), Grimm (2003). Alex van Warmerdam is married to Dutch actress Annet Malherbe, who plays parts in most of his films and also functions as a casting director. Lyne Renée (born Line Van Wambeke; 17 May 1979) is a Belgian actress. She graduated from the Studio Herman Teirlinck in Antwerp, Belgium. From 2003 to 2005 she appeared as stage actress in Belgian theaters. After she starred in the Belgian TV series ''Kinderen van Dewindt'' and the Dutch movie '' Ober'' by Alex van Warmerdam. In 2006 she moved to Los Angeles and appeared in the movies ''The Box Collector'' (2008) and '' The Hessen Conspiracy'' (2009).
