Wahl, Luxembourg
Wahl () is a commune and small village in western Luxembourg, in the canton of Redange. Wahl, which lies in the south of the commune, has a population of 220. Other villages within the commune include Buschrodt and Grevels. The commune administration for the three villages is located in Wahl's historic school building. Population Economy In addition to the commune administration, Wahl has a church and cemetery, but no local stores or restaurants. The local industry mainly comprises farming, with a few exceptions, like Topsolar (solar- & other alternative energies), Supernova Cult (fashion) and WebSEO (web design), who are the three main non-agriculture related businesses based in Wahl. Foni Tissen
Foni (Alphonse) Tissen (1909–1975) was a Luxembourg schoolteacher and artist who is remembered principally for his hyperrealistic, darkly humorous paintings, many of which were self-portraits. Early life and education Tissen was born on 3 June 1909 in Rumelange in the south of Luxembourg. After primary school in Rumelange, he attended the Lycée Poincaré in Nancy before studying painting and architecture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. There he met the Luxembourg sculptor Auguste Trémont who not only became a key advisor but a close friend for the rest of his life. In 1929, he embarked on a lengthy world trip on a passenger liner before continuing his studies a few years later in Munich and Brussels. Rambrouch
Rambrouch ( lb, Rammerech or (locally) ; german: Rambruch) is a commune and small town in western Luxembourg, in the canton of Redange. It lies close to the border with Belgium. Rambrouch was formed on 1 January 1979 from the former communes of Arsdorf, Bigonville, Folschette, and Perlé, all in Redange canton. Préizerdaul () is a commune in western Luxembourg, in the canton of Redange. Until 17 July 2001, it was known as Bettborn, after its administrative centre. Esch-sur-Sûre ( lb, Esch-Sauer, , german: Esch-Sauer ) is a commune and small town in north-western Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Wiltz, which is part of the district of Diekirch. Nicolas Grang
Nicolas Grang (2 January 1854 – 11 April 1883) was a Luxembourger soldier who died during an expedition to the Congo. Early years Nicolas Grang was born on 2 January 1854 in Buschrodt, Wahl, Luxembourg, the eldest son of Jean Grang and Barbara Thibessart. His brother Michel Grang was born in 1855, and his sister Barbe Grang was born in 1858. He studied at the Athenaeum in Luxembourg. Grang enlisted as a soldier in the Belgian 9th line regiment on 22 June 1876, entered the Military School on 7 May 1877, and was named sub-lieutenant. in the ''carabiniers'' regiment on 14 May 1879. On 30 October 1881 he was seconded to the Military Cartographic Institute, and on 18 January 1882 joined the '' Comité d'études du Haut-Congo''.
