Wadsworth Mansion (band)
Wadsworth Mansion (also known as Wadsworth Family Mansion) was an early-1970s American rock band from Providence, Rhode Island, United States. Its members were Steve Jablecki (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Wayne Gagnon (guitar, vocals), Russ Sevigny (a/k/a Russ Dana, original drummer), Mike Jablecki (drums) and John Poole (bass guitar). The group took its name from Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill in Connecticut. In November 1970, Wadsworth Mansion released their first single, a non-album version of " Sweet Mary", backed by another non-album track, "What's On Tonight". "Sweet Mary" would prove to be the band's only hit song, peaking at No. 7 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart for the week ending 27 February 1971. It peaked at No. 5 on ''Cash Box''. It also reached No. 35 on the Easy Listening chart. Sussex Records
Sussex Records, Inc. was a Los Angeles-based record label, founded by music executive and businessman Clarence Avant, that existed from 1969 through 1975. History Sussex Records was launched in December 1969 by Avant, who had previously set up another mainly black music label, Venture Records for MGM. An offshoot of Buddah Records, initially it was located at 6430 W Sunset Blvd in Hollywood, at the corner of Sunset and Cahuenga Blvds. In 1972, it moved to 6255 W Sunset Blvd, Suite 1902. All records were distributed by Buddah Records until 1974 when Sussex switched to independent distribution until its closure. The company folded in July 1975, due to unpaid state and federal taxes amounting to $62,000: the Internal Revenue Service padlocked the offices and auctioned off all assets. Hurricane Agnes
Hurricane Agnes in 1972 was the costliest hurricane to hit the United States at the time, causing an estimated $2.1 billion in damage. The hurricane's death toll was 128. The effects of Agnes were widespread, from the Caribbean to Canada, with much of the east coast of the United States affected. Damage was heaviest in Pennsylvania, where Agnes was the state's wettest tropical cyclone. Due to the significant effects, the name ''Agnes'' was retired in the spring of 1973. Forrest Howard McDonald
Forrest Howard McDonald (born April 22, 1950), is an American blues rock musician who has written hundreds of songs and played on many records. Early life Forrest Howard McDonald was born in Austin, Texas. He started playing the guitar at age 14. In his early 20s he studied at the Dick Grove Conservatory of music in Studio City, CA and at the Howard Roberts GIT. He is the son of Constitutional scholar Forrest McDonald. However, he does not involve himself in politics calling it spiritually draining and not good for creativity. Career McDonald met and was influenced by Muddy Waters in 1964. A one-hit wonder or viral hit is any entity that achieves mainstream popularity, often for only one piece of work, and becomes known among the general public solely for that momentary success. The term is most commonly used in regard to music performers with only one hit single that overshadows their other work. Some artists dubbed "one-hit wonders" in a particular country have had great success in other countries. Music artists with subsequent popular albums and hit listings are typically not considered a one-hit wonder. Easy listening (including mood music) is a popular music genre and radio format that was most popular during the 1950s to 1970s. It is related to middle-of-the-road (MOR) music and encompasses instrumental recordings of standards, hit songs, non-rock vocals and instrumental covers of selected popular rock songs. It mostly concentrates on music that pre-dates the rock and roll era, characteristically on music from the 1940s and 1950s. The Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill Estate is located at 421 Wadsworth Street in Middletown, Connecticut. It is a classical revival house situated on wooded area.
