Wadi ( ar, وَادِي, wādī), alternatively ''wād'' ( ar, وَاد), North African Arabic Oued, is the Arabic term traditionally referring to a valley. History Early years Lonely Planet was founded by married couple Maureen and Tony Wheeler. Al Khaleej ( ar, الخليج, lit=The Gulf) is a daily Arabic-language broadsheet newspaper published in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates by Dar Al Khaleej. The daily is the first newspaper published in the country. History ''Al Khaleej'' was launched by brothers Taryam and Abdullah Omran Taryam on 19 October 1970. However, the paper was closed down because of financial difficulties on 22 February 1972 after nearly 300 issues. In 1979 it was relaunched as a daily with 16 pages. The Hajar Mountains ( ar, جِبَال ٱلْحَجَر, Jibāl al-Ḥajar, ''The Rocky Mountains'' or ''The Stone Mountains'') in northeastern Oman and also the eastern United Arab Emirates are the highest mountain range in the eastern Arabian peninsula. Also known as "Oman Mountains", they separate the low coastal plain of Oman from the high desert plateau, and lie inland from the Gulf of Oman. Rustaq ( ar, ٱلرُّسْتَاق, Ar-Rustāq) is a town and ''Wilayah'' (District) in Al Batinah Region of northern Oman. The wilayah is in the Western Hajar Mountains, in the south of the Batinah. Rustaq was once the capital of Oman, during the era of Imam Nasir bin Murshid al Ya'arubi. Rustaq Fort, built four centuries prior to the 7th century CE, is an imposing structure built on three levels, containing separate houses, an armoury, a mosque and four towers. The tallest tower stands over high, and has a diameter of . The Al Hazm Castle is an outstanding example of Omani Islamic architecture and was built in 1711 AD. Snake Gorge
Snake Gorge, also called ''Wādī Bīmah'' ( ar, وَادِي بِيْمَة), is a gorge or ''wadi'' in Ad Dakhiliyah region of Oman. It is popular with hikers. It is a fantastic route for jumping off small cliffs into water pools. There are also natural water slides. However, it is flash-flood prone, and in the 1996, a small group of hikers drowned. In 2014, 11 tourists from Dubai in the UAE were trapped during rains, but managed to survive on the rocks for 2 hours, despite losing their vehicle in the process. The Royal Oman Police and PACDA frequently try to prevent such tragedies by sending out weather warnings. ''Wilāyat Wādī Banī Khālid'' ( ar, وِلَايَة وَادِي بَنِي خَالِد) is a '' Wilāyah'' (Province) in the Northern Governorate of the Eastern Region of Oman. Located about from Muscat, and from Sur, the province has a wadi which serves as a destination for tourists, that is ''Wādī Banī Khālid'' ( ar, وَادِي بَنِي خَالِد). The wadi Wadi Bani Khalid is one of the best-known wadis in the Sultanate of Oman. Its stream maintains a constant flow of water throughout the year. Large pools of water and boulders are scattered along the course of the wadi. As a geographical area, the wadi covers a large swathe of lowland and the Hajar Mountains.
