Wade E. Saadi
Wade E. Saadi is an American philatelist who served as president of the American Philatelic Society from 2008 to 2013. Saadi signed the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists in 2010. In late 2014, the Board of Governors of the Collectors Club of New York selected Saadi to receive the 2015 Alfred F. Lichtenstein Memorial Award at the Annual Awards Dinner on May 6, 2015, citing Mr. Saadi's contributions to organizational leadership, scholarship, research and writing, and exhibiting. Saadi was the president of the organizing committee for World Stamp Show-NY 2016 World Stamp Show-NY 2016 was an international exhibition of stamp collecting held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City from May 28 to June 4, 2016. Philatelist
Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin in 1864. American Philatelic Society
The American Philatelic Society (APS) is the largest nonprofit stamp collecting foundation of philately in the world. Both the membership and interests of the society are worldwide. History The organization, originally named the ''American Philatelic Association'', was established on September 14, 1886 in New York City, and the following day elected John K. Tiffany as its first president. Voting membership was granted to 219 individuals who paid two bits (25¢) for the privilege. The organization's name was changed to its present name for a few months in 1897, then back, then permanently in 1908. Society membership reached over 4,000 in 1940, and included U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes. Roll Of Distinguished Philatelists
The Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) is a Philately, philatelic award of international scale, created by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in 1921. The Roll consists of five pieces of parchment to which the signatories add their names. Selection of the signatories Those who have assisted the development of philately through their research, expertise or giving their time can be candidates to sign the Roll if they are sponsored by one of the existing signatories. The Collectors Club, often referred to as the Collectors Club of New York, is a private club and philatelic society in New York City. Founded in 1896, it is one of the oldest existing philatelic societies in the United States. Alfred Lichtenstein (philatelist)
Alfred F. Lichtenstein (August 6, 1876 – February 24, 1947) was one of the most famous American philatelists. Biography Alfred Lichtenstein's classic stamp collections were one of the most complete, with a passion for stamps issued before 1870. He collected stamps issued by Canadian provinces and the Confederation of Canada, Switzerland, Cape Colony, Ceylon, Gambia, Mauritius, Argentina and Uruguay. Considering the postal history of the United States, his collection was a reference for "Western Express". He was an active member of the Collectors Club of New York which was developed by Lichtenstein and his friend Theodore Steinway. He was also a member of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada. The Lichtenstein Medal, also known as the ''Alfred F. Lichtenstein Memorial Award for Distinguished Service to Philately'' is given annually to a living individual for outstanding service to philately. Origin The Lichtenstein Medal was established by the Collectors Club of New York in 1952 in honor of noted philatelist Alfred Lichtenstein (philatelist), Alfred F. Lichtenstein (1876-1947). World Stamp Show-NY 2016
World Stamp Show-NY 2016 was an international exhibition of stamp collecting held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City from May 28 to June 4, 2016. It was the first international stamp show to be held in New York since FIPEX in 1956. The show brought together stamp collectors, dealers, exhibitors, postal administrations and societies from several countries to sell, buy and discuss all aspects of the hobby known as philately. Between 250,000–300,000 visitors were expected to attend the show during its eight days.
