The Tom Bamford Lancaster Classic was a professional road bicycle race held in late May or early June between 1992 and 2007 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA. With the exception of the first race, which was , the Lancaster Classic covered about . Due to the "short, winding hills," it had a very low attrition rate, with 37% of starters finishing the race on average. 2003's 14% attrition was lower than that of the 2021 Tour de France, in which 23% of starters finished. History The race was established in part by Lancaster mayor Janice Stork, along with sponsor CoreStates Financial Corporation (and its acquisitions, Hamilton Bank, First Union, and Wachovia National Bank), in an attempt to revitalize the downtown area. TD Bank Triple Crown Of Cycling
The TD Bank Triple Crown of Cycling, formerly known as the Commerce Bank Triple Crown of Cycling, was a three-race series of road bicycle racing events held in the United States that ran from 2006-2008. The series consisted of the Lancaster Classic, the Reading Classic, and the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic, held over a week, with a race formerly held in Trenton, New Jersey. They were part of the UCI America Tour and the series winner earned a $10,000 prize. After the 2008 edition, the Triple Crown ended and only the Philadelphia race remained. As of 2017, none of these events remain, but Reading, Pennsylvania now hosts The Reading 120, formerly the Bucks County Classic, that is part of the UCI America Tour. USA Cycling or USAC, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the national governing body for bicycle racing in the United States. Fred Rodriguez
Fred "Freddie" Rodriguez (born September 3, 1973) is an American former professional road racing cyclist. His nickname, ''Fast Freddie'', is due to his reputation as a sprint specialist. Rodriguez won the United States National Road Race Championships four times, and won four stages at the Tour de Georgia. He competed in the men's individual road race at the 2000 Summer Olympics. Other notable results include high stage finishes in all three Grand Tours as well as second places in both in both Milan–San Remo and Gent–Wevelgem in 2002. Rodriguez participated in all three Grand Tours including the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España one time each where he had multiple stage podiums in the Vuelta and won stage 9 of the 2004 Giro d'Italia. He started the Tour de France seven times finishing it twice, and while he never won any stages he was often competitive on sprint stages with several top 5's. Team Polti
Team Polti was an Italian professional cycling team. It became an independent team in 1994, after the separation of Lampre-Polti, and was active until 2000. Team Polti began in 1994 with Gianluigi Stanga as directeur sportif and Vittorio Algeri and Claudio Corti as managers. The team used Fausto Coppi bikes. Other directeur sportifs included Giosuè Zenoni, Antonio Bevilacqua and Giovanni Fidanza. Team Polti gave Richard Virenque a chance after he was ejected from the 1998 Tour de France and while maintaining his innocence, his former teammates at Festina admitted taking EPO. Virenque joined Team Polti for the 1999 and 2000 seasons where he won the Mountains classification at the 1999 and 2000 Tour de France. Andrea Peron (cyclist, Born 1971)
Andrea Peron (born 14 August 1971) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer. He competed in the team time trial at the 1992 Summer Olympics winning a silver medal. Peron turned professional in 1993, riding for team Gatorade. He is best remembered for leading the sombre peloton across the finish line in the neutralised Stage 16 of the 1995 Tour de France, the day after the death of his team- and roommate Fabio Casartelli in a fall. He was a strong time trialist, with good results in the Italian championships, as well as a 5th place at the 1996 World Time Trial Championships. From 2002 until his retirement in 2006, he was a domestique on Team CSC. In January 2010 he joined as assistant general manager.
