Abgaal (Somali: Abgaal, Arabic: أبغال) is a subclan of the Hawiye and the even larger Samaale clan. It is one of the major Somali clans and has produced many prominent historical Somali figures including 3 presidents, and the father of the Somali military. Etymology Italian scholar of Somali and Ethiopian studies Enrico Cerulli studies discusses the origin story of the name Abgaal in his book ''How a Hawiye tribe used to live''. The mother of Hirabä was Faduma Karanlä. The mother of Abgal was Faduma Sargellä, who was an Aguran. She was espoused by 'Isman Darandollä. By him she had a son, who was called by the name 'Ali 'Isman. Later one went to Sargellä Garën. A learned old man went to him. Somali (Latin script: ; Wadaad writing, Wadaad: ; Osmanya: 𐒖𐒍 𐒈𐒝𐒑𐒛𐒐𐒘 ) is an Afroasiatic languages, Afroasiatic language belonging to the Cushitic languages, Cushitic branch. Mohamud Siad Togane
Mohamud Siad Togane ( so, Maxamed Siyaad Toogane, ar, محمد سياد توغن; born July 1, 1947) is a Somali-Canadian poet and peace activist. Biography Born in Somalia, Togane was educated in Mennonite schools in Mahaddei and Jowhar in his home country. He subsequently moved to the United States, where he attended Hartnell Junior College. He graduated from Eastern Mennonite College with a BA in English literature in 1969,He returned to Somalia and taught at the Lafole College of Education from 1970 to 1973. Like many other intellectuals, he left Somalia to escape Mohammed Siad Barre's military regime. Ali Jimale
Ali Jimale Ahmed ( so, Cali Jimcaale Axmed ) is a Somali people, Somali poet, essayist, scholar, and short story writer. He hails from the Abgaal sub clan of Hawiye Biography Ahmed holds a Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Current and former chair of Comparative Literature at Queens College, he teaches courses in African, Middle Eastern, and European literature. His poetry and short stories have also been translated into several languages, including Japanese language, Japanese and the languages spoken in the former Yugoslavia. His books include ''The Invention of Somalia'' (Red Sea Press, 1995), ''Daybreak Is Near: Literature, Clans, and the Nation-State in Somalia'' (Red Sea Press, 1996), and ''Fear Is a Cow'' (Red Sea Press, 2002). Ahmed currently teaches Comparative Literature at Queens College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Salad Ali Jelle
Salad Ali Jelle ( so, Salaad Cali Jeelle) is the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) of the Republic of Somalia. He was a political figure in the War in Somalia (2006–2009) fought between the TFG and its ally Ethiopia against the Islamic Courts Union (ICU). On January 5, 2007, after the victory over the ICU and the Fall of Mogadishu, Prime Minister Ali Mohammed Ghedi, accompanied by Salad Ali Jelle, held a review of the former troops of the government who took part in the campaign to retake the capital.
