Waalre
Waalre () is an affluent municipality and town in the province of North Brabant in the southern Netherlands, immediately south of the city of Eindhoven. Population centres * Aalst * Waalre Waalre is the so-called ''Groenfontein'' (Green fountain). This stems from its civic policy to provide a diverse tree population in streets and lanes. Waalre is considered one of the richest villages in the Netherlands due to the numerous millionaires living there. It was voted 7th best Dutch municipality to live in, according to a 2010 Elsevier research. The municipality is surrounded by woods, fields, and lakes. Aalst, North Brabant
Aalst is a village located 6 km south of Eindhoven, the Netherlands, on the Tongelreep stream and the road to Valkenswaard. It was an independent municipality until 1923, when it merged with the municipality of Waalre. Aalst experienced rapid growth during the 1970s and 1980s as housing estates were built in the Ekenrooi area, which served as an overflow area for Eindhoven. Despite this development the area remains very green and pleasant with large stretches of managed forest and heathland. Notable places include 'De hut van Mie Pils', a cafe and restaurant located in the wooded area in the east of the municipality. In September 1944, Aalst saw the British XXX Corps pass along the main road from Valkenswaard to Eindhoven as part of Operation Market Garden. John Baselmans
John Baselmans (born May 20, 1954 in Waalre, North Brabant) is a Dutch artist, sculptor, graphic designer, and illustrator. He was born in Aalst but has lived and worked in Curaçao, Netherlands Antilles since 1982. Since 1984, Baselmans has designed postal stamps for the post office of the Netherlands Antilles and has worked as an illustrator for different schoolbooks. His pen drawings are made in a combination of pen and ink, color pencils, and soft pastel chalk. Baselmans started to draw at the age of three. His father taught him woodcarving, working with clay, painting, and other techniques which he still uses. He attended the Graphic School (University) and The Free Academy in Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Afterwards, he attended several drawing courses such as airbrush and architectural rendering in the United States. He served as the CEO of Philips, Royal Philips Electronics (known universally as Philips) from 1 April 2011 to 16 August 2022. He succeeded Gerard Kleisterlee. Jan van den Dobbelsteen (born 28 September 1954, Waalre) is an interdisciplinary Dutch artist who teaches at Academy St. Joost in Breda and lives and works in Eindhoven. Geert Jan Jansen (born 1943) is a Dutch painter and art forger, who was arrested in 1994. Geert Jan Jansen was born in Waalre in the Netherlands. His engineer father was fond of art and Jansen became an art student. He befriended a US art dealer, , who ran a gallery called ''Mokum'' in Amsterdam. Later, Jansen opened his own galleries, ''Jacob'' and ''Raam'', but was not particularly successful. When his business went badly, he decided to sign posters of Karel Appel's lithographs and sell them as originals. Later, he made his first Karel Appel forgery and sold it for 2,600 guilders. Thus encouraged, he sent another forgery to London; auction house sent a photograph to Appel, who stated that it was genuine. The gouache was sold at a record price.
