Wa Self-Administered Division
The Wa Self-Administered Division ( my, ဝ ကိုယ်ပိုင်အုပ်ချုပ်ခွင့်ရ တိုင်း ) is an autonomous self-administered division in Myanmar (Burma). Its official name was announced by decree on 20 August 2010. The area was declared by Myanmar's government to be self-administered by the Wa people, but is currently de-facto administered by the self-proclaimed Wa State, under the official name Wa Special Region 2. Hopang District is a district of Shan State, Burma. It is part of the Wa Self-Administered Division. It was set up in 2011 and consists of three townships, Hopang, Mongmai and Pangwan, and two subtownships, Namtit and Panlong. Wa States
The Wa States was the name formerly given to the Wa Land, the natural and historical region inhabited mainly by the Wa people, an ethnic group speaking an Austroasiatic language. The region is located to the northeast of the Shan States of British Burma, in the area of present-day Shan State of northern Burma (Myanmar) and the western zone of Pu'er Prefecture, Yunnan, China. Practically the whole Wa region is rugged mountainous territory with steep hills and deep valleys. There were no urban areas. A section of the historical Wa territory was included in the state of Manglon, one of the Shan States. Sir James George Scott visited the Wa States around the turn of the century and wrote about the place, taking pictures of the people and the houses of the area as well. Pangsang Township
Pangsang Township is a township of the Wa Self-Administered Division of Shan State, formerly and conterminously part of Matman District. Prior to 2011, it was part of Hopang District and Lashio District. Its capital town is Pangsang (also known as Pangkham). Panlong Subtownship
Panlong Subtownship is a subtownship of the Wa Self-Administered Division of Shan State, formerly and conterminously part of Hopang District. Its main town and capital is Pan Lon, also known as Panlong and Pang Long, which was settled in the 19th century by Panthay people, mainly followers of Du Wenxiu, who had found refuge in the Wa States after having suffered persecution in China. The refugees were allowed to reside in the town by paying a tribute to the local Wa ''saopha''. History In the latter half of the nineteenth century the adherents to the Panthay cause, chiefly Hui migrants from Dali, Baoshan, Shanning, Menghua and elsewhere in southern and western Yunnan, were persecuted by the imperial mandarins in China. Mongmao Township
Mong Maoe Township ( Wa: mēng hmae; shn, ၸႄႈဝဵင်းမိူင်းမႂ်ႇ, translit=tsāaewéng Moeng Hmaue, lit=township of New Territories, my, မိုင်းမောမြို့နယ်), locally known as Moeknu (Wa: Mōuig Nū), is a township of Hopang District of Shan State. Hopang Township ( my, ဟိုပန်မြို့နယ်) is a township of the Wa Self-Administered Division in the Shan State of Burma. The principal town is Hopang. It is one of the 6 townships of Wa Self-Administered Division. It became part of Hopang District instead of Kunlong District in 2011.
