WZNE (94.1 FM) – branded 94.1 The Zone – is a commercial alternative rock radio station licensed to Brighton, New York, serving the Rochester metro area. WZNE is owned by the Stephens Media Group, and serves as the local affiliate for The Jubal Show. Its studios are located in Rochester and its transmitter is located on Pinnacle Hill in Brighton. In addition to a standard analog transmission, WZNE broadcasts over two HD Radio channels, and is available online, but not on the Western half of Monroe County. History The 94.1 FM frequency signed on the air in March 1997 under the originally assigned calls of WAQB, and with a stunt of instrumentals of rock songs while testing its signal. Stephens Media Group is an Oklahoma based radio broadcaster that owns 75 radio stations particularly in small to mid-size markets. Its flagship stations are at its headquarters in Tulsa. Stephens refers to itself as "A portfolio of People", referencing the team members who work for the company. History Stephens Media started with stations around Tulsa, Oklahoma, before expanding to small markets outside of there. On May 1, 2008, Stephens Media announced that it would acquire WFKL, WRMM-FM, and WZNE in Rochester, New York, as a part of Entercom's purchase of stations from CBS Radio in the market. WRMM-FM (101.3 FM) is a radio station licensed to serve Rochester, New York, United States. The station is owned by Stephens Media Group. Its studios are located at the First Federal Plaza building in downtown Rochester, and its transmitter site is in Rochester's west side. WRMM broadcasts an adult contemporary music format and during November and December broadcasts Christmas music. History Historically, the station was the sister station to AM 680/990, now WDCX. Then-WRNY signed on an FM signal at 97.7 in the early 1950s but shut it down in 1955. Twelve years later, the same station, now known as WNYR, signed a new FM signal at its current location, at which it has broadcast ever since. The station, branded as "Fickle 93.3", broadcasts an adult hits radio format, or what the station refers to as "We Play Everything," similar to Jack FM.
