WYGR
WYGR (1530 AM, "Jethro FM") is a radio station broadcasting a classic country format, licensed to Wyoming, Michigan and serving the Grand Rapids area. The station operates with 500 watts during the day and 250 watts critical hours, but must sign off at night to protect 1530 WCKY in Cincinnati. WYGR programming is simulcast on FM translator W235BN at 94.9 FM, which can be heard in the immediate Grand Rapids area as far north as Cedar Springs and Allendale but gives way to co-channel WMMQ out of East Lansing east of Grand Rapids and fellow co-channel WKZC north and west of the Grand Rapids area. WVHF (AM)
WVHF is an AM radio station licensed to broadcast at 1140 kHz for Kentwood, Michigan in the Grand Rapids market. The station is licensed to broadcast with 5,000 watts of power during the daytime hours but must sign off at sunset to protect co-channel WRVA (AM) in Richmond, Virginia. It is rebroadcast on WSPB 89.7 FM; licensed to Bedford, it serves the Battle Creek area. In September 2009 WJNZ Radio was purchased at a public auction by Holy Family Radio with the intent of becoming a Catholic radio station with a talk format. The station was silent for several months pending the FCC's authorization to transfer the license and during which time the call signs were changed to WVHF - Voice of the Holy Family. WMUS (107.9 FM, "107 MUS") is a radio station broadcasting a country music format in Muskegon, Michigan. The station is owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. History 107.9 FM signed on originally around 1988 as WKBZ-FM. Magic 108 Acknowledging the need for an urban oriented radio station in west Michigan, in 1993, the station evolved into WMHG ("Magic 108"), playing urban contemporary music. The station at this time was owned by Goodrich Radio. WMHG upgraded its signal to 15,000 watts and would reach as far as Grand Rapids and south towards Kalamazoo County. Some D.J.s at "Magic 108" i.e. .J. Mwho would later work at sister WSNX had local mix shows in attempts to bring strong ratings to 'Magic 108". Urban AC
Urban adult contemporary, often abbreviated as urban AC or UAC, (also known as adult R&B,) is the name for a format of radio music, similar to an urban contemporary format. Radio stations using this format usually would not have hip hop music on their playlists, and generally include some mix of contemporary R&B and traditional R&B (while urban oldies stations emphasize only the latter). Urban adult contemporary playlists generally consist of many different genres that originated amongst Black Americans including R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz, pop, hip-hop, electro, quiet storm, gospel, new jack swing, and hip-hop soul. Thomas Joyner (born November 23, 1949) is an American retired radio host, former host of the nationally syndicated '' The Tom Joyner Morning Show'', and also founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Early life Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, the son of Frances and Hercules L. Joyner. Tom came from an educated family: his grandfather Oscar was one of only 3,000 black physicians in the United States, earning a degree in medicine in 1909. Both of his parents were graduates of historically black colleges, and both Tom and his brother Albert attended Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University. Ranchera () or canción ranchera is a genre of traditional music of Mexico. It dates to before the years of the Mexican Revolution. Rancheras today are played in virtually all regional Mexican music styles. Grupera
Grupera (also known as Grupero or Onda Grupera) is a genre of Regional Mexican music. It reached the height of its popularity in the 1990s, especially in rural areas. The music has roots in the rock groups of the 1960s, but today generally consists of four or more musicians using electric guitars, keyboards and drums.
