WWMI (1380 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Catholic talk format, as an affiliate of Relevant Radio. Licensed to St. Petersburg, Florida, United States, the station serves the Tampa Bay Area. History On April 3, 1939, the Federal Communications Commission awarded a construction permit to the Pinellas Broadcasting Company to build a new radio station on 1370 kHz in St. Petersburg, broadcasting with 250 watts during the day and 100 at night. Originally WBOX but changed to WTSP ("Welcome to St. Petersburg") before launch, the station launched on the morning of November 30. The Touch is a 24-hour music format produced by Westwood One. It draws an adult audience between the ages of 25-49 with an Urban Adult Contemporary format since its inception by Satellite Music Network in 1972. In January 2010, Citadel Broadcasting rebranded this network as MyFavStation, but a month later, it was reverted to its original legacy branding. WRBQ-FM (104.7 FM, "Q105") is a commercial classic hits music formatted radio station in Tampa, Florida. Owned by Beasley Broadcast Group, its studios are in St. Petersburg while its transmitter is in Palm River-Clair Mel. Thomas Joyner (born November 23, 1949) is an American retired radio host, former host of the nationally syndicated '' The Tom Joyner Morning Show'', and also founder of Reach Media Inc., the Tom Joyner Foundation, and BlackAmericaWeb.com. Early life Joyner was born in Tuskegee, Alabama, the son of Frances and Hercules L. Joyner. Tom came from an educated family: his grandfather Oscar was one of only 3,000 black physicians in the United States, earning a degree in medicine in 1909. Both of his parents were graduates of historically black colleges, and both Tom and his brother Albert attended Tuskegee Institute, now known as Tuskegee University.
