A year later, the station changed its call letters to WVPO "The Voice of the Poconos." The station offered a blend of local news and popular music. The station moved studio locations after a devastating fire hit Main Street on July 29, 1958. The station was located above the Rea and Derick Drug Store and relocated temporarily to the transmitter site stop Godfrey's Ridge. Stroudsburg is a borough in Monroe County, Pennsylvania. It lies within the Poconos region, approximately five miles (8 km) from the Delaware Water Gap at the confluence of the Brodhead, McMichaels and Pocono Creeks in Northeastern Pennsylvania. WPLY (960 AM) was a radio station licensed to serve Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, United States. It was owned by Nassau Broadcasting Partners. It broadcast a news/talk radio format, simulcasting with WVPO (840 AM) in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. It was assigned the WPLY call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on March 10, 2005. It originally signed on in April 1981 as WPCN. The locally-owned community station was notably innovative at the time for installing serial #1 of the Continental Model 314R1 PWM transmitter, which ushered in an era of enhanced audio fidelity and efficient, power-saving operation.
