WVLT-TV (channel 8) is a television station in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, affiliated with CBS and MyNetworkTV. It is owned by Gray Television alongside Crossville, Tennessee, Crossville-licensed The CW, CW affiliate WBXX-TV (channel 20). Both stations share studios on Papermill Drive (near Interstate 40 in Tennessee, I-40/Interstate 75 in Tennessee, I-75) on the west side of Knoxville, while WVLT-TV's transmitter is located on Sharp's Ridge in North Knoxville, Knoxville, Tennessee, North Knoxville. WVLT-TV traces its history to Knoxville's second-oldest television station, which signed on in 1953 as WTSK-TV and changed its call letters to WTVK two years later. As an ultra high frequency (UHF) station, it spent most of its first three decades on the air as an also-ran against two very high frequency (VHF) competitors. WBXX-TV (channel 20) is a television station licensed to Crossville, Tennessee, United States, serving the Knoxville area as an affiliate of The CW. It is owned by Gray Television alongside dual CBS/MyNetworkTV affiliate WVLT-TV (channel 8). Both stations share studios on Papermill Drive (near I-40/I-75) on the west side of Knoxville, while WBXX-TV's transmitter is located at Windrock, Buffalo Mountain outside Oliver Springs, Tennessee. WBXX-TV is the only full-powered Knoxville-market station to be licensed in a city in the Central Time Zone; Cumberland County (where Crossville is located) and Fentress County are the only two counties in the market that observe Central Time, while Knoxville proper is in Eastern Time.
