WTHI-TV (channel 10) is a television station in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States, affiliated with CBS, Fox, MyNetworkTV and The CW Plus. Owned by Allen Media Broadcasting, the station has studios on 8th and Ohio Streets in downtown Terre Haute, and its transmitter is located along US 41/150 in unincorporated Sullivan County (south of Farmersburg). History WTHI-TV first signed on the air on July 22, 1954. It was the first television station in the Terre Haute market. It was founded by local businessman and Indianapolis Motor Speedway owner Tony Hulman, owner of radio stations WTHI (1480 AM, now WPFR), and WTHI-FM/99.9). Channel 10 has been a CBS affiliate since its sign-on; however, it initially carried programming from NBC, ABC and the DuMont Television Network as well through secondary affiliations. WAWV-TV (channel 38) is a television station in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States, affiliated with ABC. It is owned by Mission Broadcasting, which maintains joint sales and shared services agreements (JSA/SSA) with Nexstar Media Group, owner of NBC affiliate WTWO (channel 2), for the provision of certain services. WTHI-FM (99.9 Hertz, MHz; "HI-99") is a radio station running a country music format in Terre Haute, Indiana. The station's studios and broadcast tower are located along Ohio Street in downtown Terre Haute. The station is owned by Midwest Communications. WTHI-FM has led the Terre Haute market ratings for over twenty years. In 2007, the station celebrated 25 years in the country format. Over the years, WTHI has raised more than $1,000,000 for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Tony Hulman
Anton "Tony" Hulman Jr. (February 11, 1901 – October 27, 1977) was an American businessman from Terre Haute, Indiana, who bought the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 1945 and brought racing back to the famous race course after a four-year hiatus following World War II. Early life and entry into the family business Hulman was born in 1901 in Terre Haute. He was educated at St. Benedict's School at Terre Haute, Lawrenceville School in New Jersey and Worcester Academy in Massachusetts. Hulman participated in the high hurdles and the pole vault at Worcester. He served with the American Red Cross Ambulance Corps during World War I at the age of 17. Upon graduation from Yale's Sheffield Scientific School in 1924, Hulman returned to Terre Haute to work for Hulman & Company, the family business run by his father Anton Hulman, Sr. However, Anton, Sr. told his managers, "Don't give Tony a place in the business. WPFR is a Christian radio station licensed to Terre Haute, Indiana, broadcasting on 1480 kHz AM. The station is owned by American Hope Communications. History The station began broadcasting January 6, 1948, and originally held the call letters WTHI. The station ran 1,000 watts 24 hours a day. In 1970, the station's daytime power was increased to 5,000 watts.
