WTHI-FM
WTHI-FM (99.9 Hertz, MHz; "HI-99") is a radio station running a country music format in Terre Haute, Indiana. The station's studios and broadcast tower are located along Ohio Street in downtown Terre Haute. The station is owned by Midwest Communications. WTHI-FM has led the Terre Haute market ratings for over twenty years. In 2007, the station celebrated 25 years in the country format. Over the years, WTHI has raised more than $1,000,000 for the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. WTHI-FM's former studio building, which was shared with sister station WVIG (FM), WWVR and former sister station WTHI-TV (which was co-owned with WTHI-FM from 1954 to 2005), is being demolished in December 2012 to accommodate parking for a new office building constructed behind the former WTHI building and facing Wabash Avenue. WTHI-TV (channel 10) is a television station in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States, affiliated with CBS, Fox, MyNetworkTV and The CW Plus. Owned by Allen Media Broadcasting, the station has studios on 8th and Ohio Streets in downtown Terre Haute, and its transmitter is located along US 41/150 in unincorporated Sullivan County (south of Farmersburg). History WTHI-TV first signed on the air on July 22, 1954. It was the first television station in the Terre Haute market. Midwest Communications is a Wausau, Wisconsin-based radio broadcasting company. It owns 82 radio stations located primarily within the Midwest United States, in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin. The company is a family-owned business and is headed by Duke Wright. History 1950s-1960s Midwest Communications began in Wausau, Wisconsin, with WRIG, Inc. and the acquisition by the Duey E. WBOW (102.7 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a classic hits format. Licensed to Terre Haute, Indiana, it serves the Terre Haute metropolitan area. It first began broadcasting in 1961 under the call sign WPFR. The station is currently owned by Duey E. Wright through licensee Midwest Communications, Inc. History The station signed on in 1961 as WPFR. When its companion station AM 1300 (now WIBQ) became WPFR on March 17, 1983, the call sign was changed to WPFR-FM with a Top 40/ CHR format, as ''"WPFR, The All-New Power 103"''. By 1987, its CHR format had faded into a short-lived Rock 40 format but only lasted for less than a year, retaining back its mainstream format. WMGI, "100.7 Mix FM", is an FM radio station owned by Midwest Communications, Inc. in Terre Haute, Indiana. The station operates on the FM radio frequency of 100.7 MHz, FM channel 264. The studios are located at 925 Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute. History On December 31, 1994, WMGI dropped soft adult contemporary for country music as "Highway 101", but listeners reacted negatively to what turned out to be a stunt. WMGI then switched to Top 40 as "100.7 Mix FM", with Beau Richards as program director and morning co-host; the first song was "What Is Love" by Haddaway.
