WTA Elite Trophy
The WTA Elite Trophy is the second-tier year-end professional women's tennis tournament on the WTA Tour. It is the successor event of the different format WTA Tournament of Champions, which took place from 2009–14. The Elite Trophy takes place at the end of each season, in two disciplines: singles and doubles. The singles event features 12 players (11 of them ranked from 9th to 19th on the final table of the WTA ranking, and one wildcard). The players are split into four groups of three, with the group winners advancing to the single elimination semifinals. The doubles championships features six teams in two groups with the group winners contesting the final. The inaugural edition was held in 2015, offering $2.15 million in prize money. Zhuhai (, ; Yale: ''Jyūhói''), also known as Chuhai is a prefecture-level city located on the west bank of Pearl River estuary on the central coast of southern Guangdong province, People's Republic of China, on the southeastern edge of Pearl River Delta. Its name literally means "pearl sea", which originates from the city's location at the mouth of the Pearl River meeting the South China Sea. 2020 WTA Elite Trophy
The 2020 WTA Elite Trophy was a women's tennis tournament to be played at the Hengqin International Tennis Center in Zhuhai, China. It was supposed to be the sixth edition of the singles event and doubles competition with 12 singles players and six doubles teams contesting the event. However, on 23rd July, 2020, the tournament was cancelled due to the decision by China's General Administration of Sport that China would not host any international sporting events in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kiki Bertens (; born 10 December 1991) is a Dutch former professional tennis player. Her career-high WTA singles ranking was world No. 4, which she reached on 13 May 2019, becoming the highest ranked Dutch female player ever. Wang Qiang (; ; born 14 January 1992) is a Chinese professional tennis player. She has won two singles titles on the WTA Tour, one WTA 125 singles title, and 13 singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Circuit.
