WZHR (1400 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a talk format licensed to Zephyrhills, Florida, United States. The station is currently owned by Radio World, Inc. WZHR is a part of the ''Tan Talk Radio Network'', whose programming can also be heard on WTAN (1340 AM) in Clearwater, WDCF (1350 AM) in Dade City and translator station W282CC 104.3 FM Zephyr Hills. History WZRH and WPAS WZRH began broadcasting May 9, 1962, nearly 18 months after receiving its construction permit on December 21, 1960. The 250-watt station was owned by the Zephyr Broadcasting Company and affiliated with station WORT of New Smyrna Beach until being sold the next year to Paul Lasobik, a building contractor from Toledo, Ohio. Zephyrhills is a city in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was counted at 17,194 in the 2020 census. It is a suburb of the Tampa Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. Zephyrhills is also known as the headquarters of the Zephyrhills bottled water company and is a member of Tree City USA. History Zephyrhills began as the town of Abbott on April 18, 1888, and consisted of 280.74 acres. A voting district was established in 1893 followed by a post office in 1896. In 1909, Captain Howard B. Jeffries, a Civil War Union veteran from Pennsylvania, purchased 35,000 acres and created the Zephyrhills Colony Company with a plan to create a community for Civil War veterans. Dade City is a city in and the county seat of Pasco County, Florida, United States. It is located in the Tampa Bay Area. The population was 6,437 at the 2010 census. Dade City is popular with tourists for its antique stores, restaurants, and historic architecture, including the Pasco County Courthouse, Hugh Embry Library, and Edwinola. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands.
