WSPO (1390 AM) is an American radio station serving the Charleston, South Carolina, area. This station is under ownership of the Charleston Radio Group subsidiary of Saga Communications. Its studios are located in Charleston (east of the Cooper River) and the transmitter tower is in Charleston as well (west of the Ashley River). History WCSC was the first radio station in Charleston as well as the second oldest in the state of South Carolina. It was started by Fred Jordan and Lewis Burk on May 14, 1930. The station's first studios were in the Francis Marion Hotel. WCSC increased its power from 1 KW to 5 KW on December 14, 1947. WCSC was previously a longtime Top 40 formatted station for more than three decades until 1983 when WCSC flipped from Top 40 to adult contemporary in connection with WSSX's CHR launch. WMXZ (95.9 FM, "Mix 95.9") is a radio station licensed to Isle of Palms, South Carolina, United States, serving the South Carolina Lowcountry. The station is owned by the Charleston Radio Group subsidiary of Saga Communications. WMXZ airs an adult top 40 format. The station's studios are located in Charleston (east of the Cooper River) and the transmitter tower is in West Ashley, South Carolina. WTMA (1250 kHz), “News Talk 1250 WTMA”, is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Charleston, South Carolina. It has a talk radio format and is owned by Cumulus Media. WTMA's studios and offices are on Faber Place Drive in North Charleston. By day, WTMA broadcasts with 5,000 non-directional watts; but at night, to protect other stations on 1250 AM, WTMA reduces power to 1,000 watts and switches to a directional antenna with a two-tower array. It is owned by Cumulus Media and airs a classic hits radio format branded as "96.9 The Wolf."
