WSKI (1240 AM, "Rock 93.3 & 103.3") is a radio station licensed to serve Montpelier, Vermont, United States. It is owned by Galloway Communications, Inc., a subsidiary of Bedford, New Hampshire-based Northeast Broadcasting. It airs a mainstream rock format and is simulcasting WWMP 103.3 FM Waterbury. The station was assigned the WSKI call letters by the Federal Communications Commission. History WSKI began broadcasting on December 7, 1947, on 1240 kHz with 250 watts of power. The station was owned by Carl R. Taylor and B.M. Jacobsen. While it previously aired the sports radio format and most of its programming from CBS Sports Radio, WSKI also aired local sports play-by-play, including being the official radio home for the Vermont Mountaineers of the NECBL. Sports Byline USA is an international sports radio network based in the United States. ''Sports Byline USA'' is also the name of the flagship program on the network. It was the first national sports talk show and was launched on October 24, 1988. Sports Byline USA is located in San Francisco, California. The Vermont Mountaineers are a Collegiate summer baseball, collegiate summer baseball team based in Montpelier, Vermont. The team, a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, plays their home games at Montpelier Recreation Field. History In 2001, local citizens formed "Green Mountain Community Baseball", an organization formed in hopes of attracting an NECBL franchise to Montpelier, Vermont. In September of the following year the NECBL voted to expand to far-away Vermont, and to award a franchise to the group. The team's name, the Vermont Mountaineers, was chosen from more than 300 fan entries. CBS Sports Radio is a sports radio network that debuted with hourly sports news updates on September 4, 2012, and with 24/7 programming on January 2, 2013. CBS Sports Radio is owned by Paramount Global and distributed by Westwood One. Programming on the network features reporters and personalities from CBS Sports, CBS Sports Network, and CBSSports.com. Bedford is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 23,322, reflecting a growth of 10% from 2010. Bedford is a suburb of Manchester, New Hampshire's largest city. Mainstream rock (also known as heritage rock) is a radio format used by many commercial radio stations in the United States and Canada. Format background Mainstream rock stations represent the middle ground between classic rock and active rock on the programming spectrum, in that they play more classic rock songs from the 1970s and 1980s and fewer songs from emerging acts than active rock stations, and only rarely play songs on the softer edge of the classic rock format. Montpelier () is the capital city of the U.S. state of Vermont and the seat of Washington County. The site of Vermont's state government, it is the least populous state capital in the United States.
