WSGW-FM (100.5 MHz), branded FM Talk & Sports 100.5, is a radio station broadcasting a news, talk, and sports format to the Greater Tri-Cities area of Michigan. WSGW (790 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Saginaw, Michigan that broadcasts with 5,000 watts of power during the day and 1,000 watts at night. WSGW is owned by Alpha Media, the nation's fourth largest owner of radio stations. The radio station features a 24-7 local news department with talk shows of local and national interest, as well as play-by-play sports broadcasts. WSGW is an affiliate of CBS News Radio, the Compass Media Networks, Premiere Networks, Westwood One, Detroit Tigers baseball, Detroit Red Wings hockey, Saginaw Spirit hockey, and the Michigan Wolverines. WCEN-FM
WCEN-FM (94.5 MHz, "The Moose") is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. WCEN has been licensed in Hemlock, Michigan since 2001. It first began broadcasting in 1959 and was originally licensed in Mount Pleasant, Michigan (though the tower location and signal pattern have not changed since the city of license change, and the station still has a local-grade signal in Mount Pleasant). Saginaw () is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the seat of Saginaw County. The city of Saginaw and Saginaw County are both in the area known as Mid-Michigan. Saginaw is adjacent to Saginaw Charter Township and considered part of Greater Tri-Cities region of Central Michigan. The Saginaw County MSA had a population of 190,124 in 2020. The city is also the largest municipality in the Saginaw, Midland, and Bay City Metropolitan Area, with a combined population of 377,474 in the combined statistical area in 2020. WTLZ (107.1 FM, "Kiss 107.1") is a radio station licensed to Saginaw, Michigan broadcasting an urban adult contemporary format. WTLZ retains a strong signal south of Saginaw toward Flint, but moving eastward toward the Lapeer County area, WSAQ 107.1 "Q Country" signal tends to overpower WTLZ as they are both on the same frequency. History 107.1 FM signed on in October 1969 as WWWS "W3-Soul" with an ERP of 2,000 Watts. W3 Soul at the time played a mix of Jazz and R&B for the Tri-Cities. The Saginaw Spirit are a major junior ice hockey team based in Saginaw, Michigan. They are members of the West Division of the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of the Major Junior leagues of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL). History The Saginaw Spirit were born when Dick Garber, the owner of several local automobile dealerships, purchased the North Bay Centennials and moved the team to Saginaw after the 2001–02 season. Saginaw Spirit was named by an elementary school student attending Handley Elementary after a contest was held to name the new coming team. The team traces its roots back to St. Catharines, Ontario, where it played as the Falcons, Teepees, and Black Hawks from 1943 to 1976. WGER (106.3 FM, "106.3 The Core") is a radio station licensed to Saginaw, Michigan, broadcasting a classic alternative format. The station broadcasts from a transmitter southeast of I-675 Exit 6 (Tittabawassee Road) in Carrollton Township in Saginaw County. History Beginnings at 102.5 Established by James Gerity, a professional violinist who acquired WNEM-TV in 1961, WGER began broadcasting later that year at 102.5 MHz under the WNEM-FM calls and featured a Beautiful Music format for the first couple decades of its existence. The call letters were changed to WGER after Gerity sold the TV station in 1969. He is the Vice President of Content for the Salem Media Group and is the founder of American Private Radio, and the creator, founder and host of "Our American Stories," a weekday radio show syndicated across the U.S. Habeeb has written columns for ''USA Today, The Washington Examiner, the National Review'', and LifeZette. All-news radio is a radio format devoted entirely to the discussion and broadcast of news. All-news radio is available in both local and syndicated forms, and is carried on both major US satellite radio networks. All-news stations can run the gamut from simulcasting an all-news television station like CNN, to a "rip and read" headline service, to stations that include live coverage of news events and long-form public affairs programming. Many stations brand themselves ''Newsradio'' but only run news during the morning and afternoon drive times, or in some cases, broadcast talk radio shows with frequent news updates. These stations are properly labeled as "news/talk" stations.
