WRJD
WRJD (1410 AM) is a radio station based in Durham, North Carolina, which currently broadcasts a Spanish Christian format. It was a heritage radio station that went by WSRC for over half a century. History The station signed on the air as WSRC on October 15, 1954, a day most locals remember as the day Hurricane Hazel roared through Central and Eastern North Carolina, causing a great deal of damage and destruction. Despite that initial setback, WSRC managed to continue broadcasting as the first radio station in the Raleigh-Durham market to serve the black community. An FM station signed on at 107.1 in 1965, but was later sold to Duke University in 1968 as WDBS-FM (now WFXC). Throughout much of its lifetime, WSRC has played a mix of gospel, soul, and R&B music. WTIK (1310 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Regional Mexican format. Licensed to Durham, North Carolina, United States, the station serves the Triangle area. The station is currently owned by Stuart Epperson, through licensee Truth Broadcasting Corporation. History On June 10, 1946, under Harmon Duncan, Durham's second radio station, WDUK, began broadcasting at 1310 AM with 1,000 watts, and studios on Corcoran Street downtown, and its transmitter site on Leon Street in the Glendale Heights neighborhood. On July 4, 1946, James Floyd Fletcher, son of Capitol Broadcasting Company founder A.J. Fletcher, started the city's third radio station, WTIK, at 730 AM with studios downtown and an antenna on Ellis Road. WOLI (910 Hertz, kHz) is a Regional Mexican AM radio, AM radio station located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The station is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast with power of 3,600 watts in the daytime and 890 watts at night under separate directional signal patterns. History WSPA 950 AM signed on the air on February 17, 1930 as South Carolina's first radio station, beating out WSPO, WCSC/Charleston, South Carolina, Charleston and WVOC, WIS/Columbia, South Carolina, Columbia by several months. WFXC (107.1 FM) and WFXK (104.3 FM) are a pair of simulcasting urban adult contemporary stations in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina market. WFXC is the main station, licensed to Durham, while WFXK is a full-power satellite licensed to Bunn. Owned by Radio One along with K97.5 and The Light 103.9, ''"Foxy 107/104"'' plays "Today's R&B and Classic Soul" and airs the Rickey Smiley morning show and the D.L. Hughley afternoon show. Shirley Ann Caesar-Williams (born October 13, 1938), known professionally as Shirley Caesar, is an American gospel singer whose career has spanned seven decades. She has won 11 Grammys in addition to Dove Awards and Stellar Awards; Caesar is known as the "First Lady of Gospel Music" and "The Queen of Gospel Music". She began recording with Federal Records at the age of 12 in 1951. Caesar has released over forty albums. North Carolina Central University
North Carolina Central University (NCCU or NC Central) is a public historically black university in Durham, North Carolina. Founded by James E. Shepard in affiliation with the Chautauqua movement in 1909, it was supported by private funds from both Northern and Southern philanthropists. It was made part of the state system in 1923, when it first received state funding and was renamed as Durham State Normal School. It added graduate classes in arts and sciences and professional schools in law and library science in the late 1930s and 1940s. In 1969 the legislature designated this a regional university and renamed it as North Carolina Central University.
