Wasatch Roller Derby
Wasatch Roller Derby (WRD) is a women's flat track roller derby league based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Founded in 2008, Wasatch is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA). History and organization Originally emerging from the Salt City Derby Girls, the league's formation was led by Lacey "Honey" Peterson and Brandi "Medusa" Olsen. The first public Wasatch bout was held April 25, 2009 at Hollywood Connection in West Valley City. Wasatch joined the WFTDA Apprentice Program in October 2009, and were accepted as full WFTDA members in June 2010. By January 2012, they were described as the biggest league in Salt Lake City. The ''W.R.D.'' published both satirical articles, such as "A Stress Analysis of a Strapless Evening Gown", and scientific papers, the most famous of which, "Memory transfer through cannibalism in planaria", was a result of McConnell's RNA memory transfer experiments with planarian worms and was later published in the ''Journal of Neuropsychiatry''. The title for the W.R.D., McConnell explained, was an extension of the psychological jargon that terms psychologists who work with rats "rat runners" and those who work with insects "bug runners." Spurious languages are languages that have been reported as existing in reputable works, while other research has reported that the language in question did not exist. Some spurious languages have been proven to not exist. Others have very little evidence supporting their existence, and have been dismissed in later scholarship.
