Keyser () is a city in and the county seat of Mineral County, West Virginia. It is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 4,853 at the 2020 census. History Keyser, the county seat of Mineral County, is located on the North Branch of the Potomac River at its juncture with New Creek in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Throughout the centuries, the town went through a series of name changes, but was ultimately named after William Keyser, a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad official. The first local land grant was issued by Lord Fairfax to Christopher Beelor on March 20, 1752. History Originally known as WVMD, the station was scheduled to begin broadcasting sometime in early 2007, but finally launched with a smooth jazz format on April 1, 2008, at 12:00 midnight. WVMD is a Country-formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Romney, West Virginia, serving the Romney/ Cumberland area. WVMD is owned by West Virginia Radio Corporation. History The genesis of WVMD was WPBB, originally intended as a service for the blind. It was founded by Martin John Fenik and Peter Keim Hons of Pisces Broadcasting in 1984. WVMD was formerly WJJB and played an Adult Contemporary format under the name "Jib 100". Frostburg is a city in Allegany County, Maryland, United States, and is at the head of the Georges Creek Valley. It is part of the Cumberland, MD-WV Metropolitan Statistical Area. Located west of Cumberland, the town is one of the first cities on the "National Road", US 40, and the western terminus of the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad. Frostburg was originally called Mount Pleasant until 1820, when the government developed a postal service, and the town was renamed Frostburg.
