History WQXO signed on in 1955 as WMAB "Munising Alger Broadcasting" operating from studios above the First National Bank building (now City Hall). Owned by The Munising News, WMAB operated daytime only at first, later staying on the air until 10pm nightly. The call letters were changed to WGON "Wagon Radio" (similar to Menominee's WAGN). In 1974 an FM CP was obtained and signed on as WQXO with a plan to be a separate format from WGON. The separate programming didn't materialize and WQXO signed on simulcasting WGON's programming. The Michigan Radio Network (or MRN) was a satellite-distributed news service that provides actualities, newscasts, and talk shows to affiliates in Michigan. It was most recently owned by Learfield Communications and had headquarters in Lansing, Michigan. Over the years MRN had been around in various forms and names, and is a sister network to the Michigan Farm Radio Network. Munising, Michigan
Munising ( ') is a city in Alger County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,355 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Alger County. The city is partially surrounded by Munising Township, but the two are administered autonomously. Located on the southern shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula, it serves as the western gateway to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Westwood One is an American radio network owned by Cumulus Media. The company syndicates talk, music, and sports programming. The company takes its name from an earlier network also named Westwood One, a company founded in 1978. The company was, at various times, managed by CBS Radio, the radio arm of CBS Corporation and Viacom. It was later purchased by the private equity firm The Gores Group before merging with Dial Global in 2011. In December 2013, Dial Global was, in turn, acquired by Cumulus Media.
