WPYR
WPYR (1380 AM broadcasting, AM) is an American radio station licensed to serve the community of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The station currently airs a Catholic Church, Catholic programming format. History WPYR was originally WYNK, a country music outlet until its format was moved to the FM side. The station signed on in 1956 and was affiliated with Citadel Media, ABC Radio and Mutual Broadcasting System, Mutual. In the 1990s, WYNK switched to Radio Disney and briefly held the WFMF call letters after the FM side became WLSS. Once WLSS returned to the WFMF call letters, 1380 reverted to WYNK. WYNK flipped to a syndicated talk format on April 22, 2002. In 2005, WYNK became the Baton Rouge affiliate of Air America Radio and changed call letters to WPYR. Pamal Broadcasting, Ltd. is a family-owned radio group with twenty-three stations in medium-to-small markets in the Northeast. Based in the Albany suburb of Latham, New York, Pamal Broadcasting was founded in 1987 as Albany Broadcasting Company, when business man James J. Morrell entered broadcast ownership with the purchase of WFLY and WPTR from Five States Tower Company, a Poughkeepsie, New York-based broadcasting company that also owned radio stations WPDH and WEOK in the mid-Hudson valley. The Pamal name, a portmanteau of the names of Morrell's children, was adopted in 1996 though each cluster uses a unique name (such as Albany Broadcasting for the Albany cluster; the Pamal name is rarely used on-air, except in the Hudson Valley). WULR
WULR (980 AM) is a commercial radio station in York, South Carolina, and serving the Charlotte metropolitan area. The station license is owned by Iglesia Nueva Vida of High Point. WULR broadcasts a Spanish language Christian talk and teaching radio format. By day, WULR is powered at 3,000 watts, using a directional antenna. But to avoid interfering with other stations on 980 AM, it reduces power at night to 167 watts. The station uses a two-tower array. History Curtis Sigmon signed on WYCL at 1580 AM on April 19, 1956, with 250 watts. The station later moved to 980 AM and increased power to 1,000 watts. WQNO
WQNO is a station based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The station is owned by Catholic Community Radio, Inc. and broadcasts at 690 kHz with a power level of 9,100 watts daytime and 2,100 watts nighttime. The station mostly runs Roman Catholic programming from EWTN radio. The facilities of the station, previously called WTIX, were severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in late August 2005. The station had the target date to resume broadcasting on December 1, and in November requested the new letters WIST. Other stations have used the WTIX letters in the years since 2005. On November 6, 2014 WQNO was granted a Federal Communications Commission construction permit to decrease day power to 9,100 watts and decrease night power to 2,100 watts. WEWN is the shortwave radio outlet of the EWTN, a large Roman Catholic international broadcaster based in Irondale, Alabama. It was launched by Mother Angelica on December 28, 1992. WEWN broadcasts from the city of Vandiver, Alabama, in the vicinity of the Birmingham metro area. There are four transmitters capable of 500 kilowatts each, but are run no higher than 250 kW. On March 30, 2008, EWTN ceased all shortwave transmissions to North America and expanded its English language coverage of WEWN to India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The Eternal Word Television Network, more commonly known by its initials EWTN, is an American basic cable television network which presents around-the-clock Catholic-themed programming. It is not only the largest Catholic television network in America, but reportedly "the world’s largest religious media network", (and according to the network itself) reaching 250 million people in 140 countries, with 11 networks.
