WPCL is a religious-formatted radio station located in Northern Cambria, Pennsylvania, United States. The station broadcasts programming from the He's Alive network on 97.3 FM. History Beginnings as WCCZ-FM WPCL first signed on the air on September 30, 1991 as WCCZ-FM, licensed to Spangler, which is known today as the Borough of Northern Cambria. The station was the third and final of a group of stations founded by Raymark Broadcasting, a company owned by Ray Goss of Indiana, and Mark Harley, of Clearfield. Raymark had started their company with two other radio stations that they had built prior to this one: WCCS-AM in Homer City and WOKW-FM in Curwensville. Harley had purchased Goss' stake in the company by this time, as Goss wished to pursue other interests. WCCS (1160 AM) is a commercially licensed American radio station, in Homer City, Pennsylvania, about 50 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, and 25 miles northwest of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. WOKW is licensed to Curwensville, Pennsylvania, but maintains studios and offices in Clearfield. History WOKW signed on the air on August 1, 1989, at 10:29 a.m. That exact time and day was chosen as they numerically reflected the new station's frequency of 102.9. The station was initially assigned the call letters WWWS, but those were changed shortly before the station went on the air. Northern Cambria is a borough in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Johnstown, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 3,835 at the 2010 census. History The borough of Northern Cambria was incorporated on January 1, 2000. It was formed from the merger of two smaller municipalities, Barnesboro and Spangler. The merger proposal was taken to residents in the 1997 election, passing in Spangler 410-243 and in Barnesboro 466-324. The area was first settled by Europeans in the early-to-middle 19th century. The presence of the West Branch of the Susquehanna River allowed loggers to move their harvest downstream.
