WPAC (FM)
WPAC (98.7 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Ogdensburg, New York, and serving St. Lawrence County. It is owned by the Stephens Media Group and broadcasts an oldies radio format. WPAC has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 6,000 watts. History WPAC began broadcasting on April 1, 1998, as WZEA. WZEA featured a contemporary hit radio (CHR) format as "Zed 98-7." The station kept the format, but switched calls to WYSX (as "Yes FM") a short time later as a three-way simulcast with sister stations WYSI (96.7, now WYSX) in Canton (now WYSX) and WYUL (94.7, now WQLR) in Chateaugay. The simulcast with WYSI ended in July 2005, when 98.7 switched to the current oldies format with the WPAC calls; the "Yes FM" name and WYSX calls moved to 96.7. Ogdensburg ( moh, Kaniatarahòn:tsi) is a city in St. Lawrence County, New York, United States. The population was 10,436 at the 2019 census. In the late 18th century, European-American settlers named the community after American land owner and developer Samuel Ogden. The City of Ogdensburg is at the northern border of New York at the mouth of the Oswegatchie River on the south bank of the St. Lawrence River. The only formally designated city in the county, it is located between Massena, New York to the east and Brockville, Ontario to the west. Martz Communications Group is an American radio broadcasting company, which operates three radio stations in the St. Lawrence River area of New York and one in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The company, which also operates under the names Radio Power and Cartier Communications, is co-based in Parishville, New York and San Francisco, California; with auxiliary offices in Reno, Nevada; Burlington, Vermont; and Pointe-Claire, Quebec. The company was founded in 1986 by Tim Martz, a native of Kitchener, Ontario who established a radio station in Presque Isle, Maine, taking advantage of the market across the border in New Brunswick, Canada without being required to submit to the rules of the CRTC. Chateaugay (town), New York
Chateaugay is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 2,155. The name is derived from a location in France, which was applied to a local land grant. Within the town is a village also named Chateaugay. The town is located in the northeastern corner of the county. History The first settlement took place in 1796. The town was formed in 1799 before Franklin County was established, from parts of the towns of Champlain and Plattsburgh. By 1802, Chateaugay comprised most of Franklin County. Subsequently, its territory was reduced to form other towns. The town of Malone was set off from Chateaugay in 1805. WQLR (94.7 FM) is a non-commercial religious FM radio station licensed to Chateaugay, New York owned by the Educational Media Foundation airing the EMF's K-Love Contemporary Christian format. The station is a border blaster, predominantly serving Greater Montreal and the Seaway River Valley, including Cornwall, Ontario and Massena, New York. WQLR has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 11,000 watts. Its transmitter is on Old Hill Road in Ellenburg, New York, approximately southwest of Montreal. Its city-grade signal reaches the southwestern portion of Greater Montreal, while its C2 class signal covers most of Montreal proper. Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter.
