''WOW Hymns: 30 Modern & Classic Hymns from Today's Top Artists'' is a two-disc compilation album of hymns that have been recorded by popular Christian musicians. It was released on March 6, 2007. The album features thirty songs by Jeremy Camp, Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Third Day, Newsboys, Chris Rice, Nichole Nordeman, David Crowder Band, and many other well-known groups and singers. Christian Contemporary Music
Contemporary Christian music, also known as CCM, Christian pop, and occasionally inspirational music is a genre of modern popular music, and an aspect of Christian media, which is lyrically focused on matters related to the Christian faith and stylistically rooted in Christian music. It was formed by those affected by the 1960s Jesus movement revival who began to express themselves in other styles of popular music, beyond the church music of hymns, gospel and Southern gospel music that was prevalent in the church at the time. Initially referred to as Jesus music, today, the term is typically used to refer to pop, but also includes rock, alternative rock, hip hop, metal, contemporary worship, punk, hardcore punk, latin, EDM, R&B-influenced gospel and country styles. For The Beauty Of The Earth
"For the Beauty of the Earth" is a Christian hymn by Folliott S. Pierpoint (1835-1917). History Pierpoint was 29 at the time he wrote this hymn; he was mesmerized by the beauty of the countryside that surrounded him. It first appeared in 1864 in a book of Eucharistic Hymns and Poems entitled "Lyra Eucharistica, Hymns and Verses on The Holy Communion, Ancient and Modern, with other Poems." It was written as a Eucharistic hymn - hence the title of "The Sacrifice of Praise", the refrain "Christ, our God, to Thee we raise, This, our sacrifice of praise", and as is seen throughout the original text of 1864, especially the last two lines which had replaced the Refrain in verse 8. This is how it appears in the 'English Hymnal' of 1933, with the two exceptions, that Pierpoint's last two lines which had replaced the Refrain after verse 8, were omitted and the Refrain sung instead, and the first two words of the last line in verse (three) "sinking sense", in common with all other hymnboo ... Big Daddy Weave
Big Daddy Weave is an American contemporary Christian band from Mobile, Alabama composed of Mike Weaver, Joe Shirk, Jeremy Redmon, and Brian Beihl. They are signed to Fervent Records. History The band members met in college while attending the University of Mobile. Mike Weaver had been serving as worship leader of a Pensacola, Florida church and attending a community college in the area. He came to the university at the urging of his pastor, and studied voice. In 2006 and 2007, Big Daddy Weave toured with Mark Schultz on his "Broken and Beautiful" Tour. In 2009, they headlined the "What Life Would Be Like" Tour with guest musician Josh Wilson. On June 25, 2019, band frontman Mike Weaver announced that he would be releasing his autobiographical book, ''I Am Redeemed'', on September 3, 2019. John H. Sammis (1846–1919) was the writer of the Christian hymn "Trust and Obey" with Daniel B. Towner in 1887. Sammis also wrote the hymn "He's a Friend of Mine". Biography Sammis was born in 1846, in Brooklyn, New York. He was a businessman who became a Presbyterian minister. He taught at the Bible Institute of Los Angeles. Sammis wrote over 100 hymns. "In Christ Alone" is a popular modern Christian song written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, both songwriters of Christian hymns and contemporary worship music in the United Kingdom. The song, with a strong Irish melody, is the first hymn they penned together. The music was by Getty and the original lyrics by Townend. It was composed in 2001. "In Christ Alone" is considered a Christian credal song for belief in Jesus Christ. The theme of the song is the life, death and resurrection of Christ, and that he is God whom even death cannot hold. The song is commonly known as "In Christ Alone (My Hope Is Found)" and "In Christ Alone (I Stand)" taking verses from the song. Brian Thomas Littrell (born February 20, 1975) is an American singer and a member of the Backstreet Boys. "I Surrender All" is a Christian hymn, with words written by American art teacher and musician Judson W. Van DeVenter (1855–1939), who subsequently became a music minister and evangelist. It was put to music by Winfield S. Weeden (1847–1908), and published in 1896. Annie Hawks (May 28, 1836 - January 3, 1918) was an American poet and gospel hymnist who wrote a number of hymns with her pastor, Robert Lowry (hymn writer), Robert Lowry. She contributed to several popular Sunday school hymnbooks, and wrote the lyrics to a number of well-known hymns including: "I Need Thee Every Hour"; "Thine, Most Gracious Lord"; "Why Weepest Thou? Natalie Diane Grant (born December 21, 1971) is an American singer and songwriter of contemporary Christian music. She received the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year four consecutive years (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009), and again in 2012.
