WOPG-FM (89.9 MHz) is a Catholic radio station licensed to Esperance, New York and owned by Pax et Bonum, Inc. The station primarily carries satellite-fed programming by EWTN Radio. It is simulcast with co-owned WOPG 1460 AM in Albany. The radio studios and offices are on Kenwood Avenue in Bethlehem. The station broadcasts at 1,400 watts effective radiated power (ERP) and serves the Mohawk Valley and Capital District. History WOPG is the newest radio station in the Mohawk Valley region, having signed on November 3, 2010. The station is a "rimshot" into both Albany and Utica, and has its transmitter at a former microwave tower located near Cherry Valley, New York. In October 2013, Pax et Bonum announced that it would acquire WDDY (1460 AM) from The Walt Disney Company. It had carried programming from Radio Disney. WOPG (1460 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Albany, New York and serving the Capital District. It is owned by Pax et Bonum, Inc. (Peace and Goodness in Latin) and has a Christian radio format aimed at Roman Catholic listeners, with much of its programming coming from the EWTN Radio network. WOPG simulcasts with WOPG-FM at 89.9 FM in Esperance, New York. WOPG was the first radio station licensed to Albany. It operates with 5,000 watts of power non-directional by day, and employs a directional antenna at night to protect other stations on AM 1460. Delmar is a hamlet in the Town of Bethlehem, in Albany County, New York, United States. It is a suburb of the neighboring city of Albany. The community is bisected by NY Route 443 (Delaware Avenue), a major thoroughfare, main street, and route to Albany. In radio and television broadcasting a rimshot is a station that attempts to reach a larger media market from a distant suburban, exurban, or even rural location. The term is primarily used with FM stations, and mainly in North America. The name derives not from the sound of a rimshot in music, but rather from basketball, where the ball hits the rim of the basket, and may or may not go in. Rimshot stations are often at a disadvantage compared to higher-strength signals in a market. Many rimshot operators attempt to serve the larger market with a signal that has deficiencies in the intended listening area, especially on the far side from where it is transmitted.
