WMKV (89.3 FM) is a radio station in Reading, Ohio, United States, a suburb of Cincinnati. It is the first FM educational public radio station to be licensed to a retirement community and also streams live via webcast. Operating from the campus of Maple Knoll Village, WMKV broadcasts talk programs, classic shows from the old-time radio era, and features musical standards and big band music. The station also carries the audio of WKRC-TV's morning and evening news. The station's transmitter has an effective radiated power of 410 watts. Starting in July 2013, WMKV's programming has been also carried by Lakota Local School District's WLHS 89.9 FM. In addition to its streaming audio service, three WMKV programs are available as podcasts via iTunes: "WMKV World Front," "WMKV Computer Talk," and "The Big Broadcast." The oldest extant high school AM radio station is AM 1450 KBPS in Portland, Oregon. Portland radio station KBPS, first licensed in 1923, is the second oldest radio station overall in the city of Portland. The student body of Benson Polytechnic High School purchased the transmitter and other equipment from Stubbs Electric in Portland for $1,800. ''Moon River'' was a long-running late-night American radio program which originated from WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio. A combination of soft, "dreamy" music and romantic poetry set to organ accompaniment, the program aired from 1930 to 1970. History Described as "one of the few programs designed to put people to sleep" by onetime announcer Bill Myers, ''Moon River'' was created by writer Ed Byron at the behest of WLW station owner Powel Crosley, Jr., who ordered the writer to come up with a poetry show which could accommodate the station's new organ. Retreating to a speakeasy with violinist Virginio Marucci, Byron sketched out some notes, including his original poem that opened the show. Lakota Local Schools is a public school district serving students from West Chester and Liberty townships in Butler County, Ohio, in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati. Serving nearly 15,000 students, it is the largest school district in Butler County, second largest in southwestern Ohio and the seventh largest in the U.S. state of Ohio.
