WIS (channel 10) is a television station in Columbia, South Carolina, United States, affiliated with NBC and The CW. The station is owned by Gray Television, and maintains studios on Bull and Gervais Streets ( US 1/ US 378) in downtown Columbia and a transmitter on Rush Road (southeast of I-20) in rural southwestern Kershaw County, outside Lugoff. The station's first telecast was a college football game between the University of South Carolina and the University of North Carolina. WPCO (1230 AM, "94.9 The Palm") was a radio station in Columbia, South Carolina. Last Owned by Alpha Media, it broadcast an adult album alternative (AAA) format. Its studios were on Pineview Road in Columbia, with a transmitter tower located near Bicentennial Park along the Congaree River in downtown Columbia. History WNOK 1230 AM signed on January 1, 1947 featuring local as well as national programing from the Mutual Broadcasting System. In the early 1950s, WNOK had added a UHF TV station on Channel 67, eventually changing to Channel 19 by the early 1960s. (WNOK-TV was sold by 1977, becoming WLTX.) WNOK (104.7 FM) is a commercial radio station licensed to Columbia, South Carolina, serving the Columbia metropolitan area and the Midlands of South Carolina. It broadcasts a Top 40 (CHR) radio format and it's owned by iHeartMedia, Inc. The current slogan is "The Midlands' #1 Hit Music Station." Its radio studios are on Greystone Boulevard in Columbia, off Interstate 126, near the Riverbanks Zoo. WNOK has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 90,000 watts. The transmitter is in the northeast section of Columbia, off Hardscrabble Road at Lee Road. WNOK is "short-spaced" with WKQC in Charlotte, also broadcasting on 104.7 MHz. It is owned by SagamoreHill Broadcasting, which maintains a shared services agreement (SSA) with Gray Television, owner of ABC affiliate WTVM (channel 9), for the provision of certain services.
