WLGC (1520 AM) was a news radio station licensed to Greenup, Kentucky while their studio is located in Ashland, Kentucky. The station's transmitter, like WLGC-FM, was in Greenup. The station was owned by Greenup County Broadcasting, Inc. History The station went on the air as WLGC on May 30, 1984. On July 17, 1989, the station changed its call sign to WTCV. Greenup is a home rule-class city located at the confluence of the Little Sandy River with the Ohio River in Greenup County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,188 at the 2010 census. Greenup is one of three county seats in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to share its name with its county; the other two being Harlan and Henderson. Greenup is a part of the Huntington- Ashland, WV- KY- OH Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 287,702. History Greenup was laid out in 1803 and 1804 by Robert Johnson, a pioneer and legislator who owned the land. AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands.
