WLCM (South Carolina)
WLCM was a radio station licensed to Lancaster, South Carolina. It operated on 1360 kHz with a power of 1,000 watts, daytime, non-directional. The call letters were chosen in honor of Springs Industries, the largest employer in the town, and represent the slogan, "World's Largest Cotton Mill." History WLCM signed on the air November 26, 1951. Owned by the Royal Broadcasting Company, it broadcast from studios at 103 South Catawba Street in Lancaster. In July 1964, a sister FM station joined it when WLCM-FM 107.1 (later WPAJ) signed on (it is now WRHM). The station became popular during the 1960s thanks to the local DJ talents of Jim Knight. The station declined after his departure. In 1987, WLCM and WPAJ were purchased by Our Three Sons Broadcasting, owners of WRHI AM in nearby Rock Hill, South Carolina. WRHM (107.1 FM) is the flagship station of Interstate 107, the branding of two country music format stations in Rock Hill, South Carolina (107.1 WRHM) and Chesterfield, South Carolina ( 107.3 FM WVSZ). Rock Hill is the largest city in York County, South Carolina and the fifth-largest city in the state. WBT (1110 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station serving the Charlotte metropolitan area, including parts of North Carolina and South Carolina. First licensed on March 18, 1922, it is one of America's first radio stations. The station airs a news/talk radio format simulcast on WBT-FM (99.3) and the HD2 digital subchannel of co-owned WLNK. WBT is owned by Urban One. Studios and offices are located off West Morehead Street, just west of Uptown Charlotte, co-located with the city's CBS television affiliate, WBTV, currently owned by Gray Television but at one time co-owned with WBT Radio. WADE (1340 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Wadesboro, North Carolina. It is owned by New Life Community Temple of Faith, Inc., and broadcasts an Urban Gospel radio format, with some Christian talk and teaching programs. WADE is simulcast with sister station WDEX 1430 AM in Monroe, North Carolina. History On July 23, 1947, WADE signed on for the first time. It was constructed by Risden Allen Lyon with the help of his father, Robert Phillip Lyon. WGIV
WGIV (1370 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Pineville, North Carolina, and serving the Charlotte metropolitan area. It airs an urban contemporary radio format. WGIV is owned by Frank Neely, but the station is operated by Steve Hedgwood's Core Communications, which owns a similar trimulcast in Atlanta of W233BF, WIPK and WFDR. By day, WGIV is powered at 16,000 watts. To protect other stations on 1370 AM, it greatly reduces power at night to 45 watts. WGIV is simulcast on FM translators W277CB at 103.3 MHz and W263CY at 100.5 MHz, both of which are licensed to Charlotte.
