Beach Music
Beach music, also known as Carolina beach music, and to a lesser extent, Beach pop, is a regional genre of music in the United States which developed from rock/ R&B and pop music of the 1950s and 1960s. Beach music is most closely associated with the style of dance known as the shag, or the Carolina shag, which is also the official state dance of both North Carolina and South Carolina. King is a city in Stokes and Forsyth counties, North Carolina, United States. The population was 7,096 at the 2020 census. King is part of the Piedmont Triad metropolitan area, located 15 miles northwest of Winston-Salem. The city has two large public parks: Recreation Acres and Central Park. Ed Weiss ( – October 8, 2022), known on air as Charlie Brown, was an American disc jockey and host of the syndicated beach music program ''On the Beach with Charlie Brown'', heard on nearly 40 stations, mostly in The Carolinas, Virginia and Georgia. Radio career As a teenager, Eddie Weiss worked as a DJ on various stations playing songs for teens. In 1961, Weiss while working at a radio station in Norfolk, he was told "Eddie Weiss" would no longer be his name. Instead, he would be "Charlie Brown", after the song by The Coasters. After graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1963, Brown worked at a station in Charlotte, where he interviewed Stevie Wonder; Diana Ross brought the singer into the room.
