WKS Grodno
Wojskowy Klub Sportowy Grodno (WKS Grodno) was a Polish football team, located in Grodno, Poland (now Belarus), on the historic territory of Kresy Wschodnie (Polish Eastern Borderlands). The club was founded in 1934, when the team of “Cresovia” Grodno merged with a few local clubs. A year later, WKS won championships of the Białystok A-Class, however, it never succeeded in winning championships of northeastern Poland, year by year losing to the local powerhouse, Śmigły Wilno. Grodno's side was supported by the garrison of the Polish Army and it ceased to exist after Soviet invasion of Poland (1939). Retro league In 2019, the WKS Grodno team had been reconstructed by the historical reconstruction association in Poland as part of the Retro Liga project. Grodno (russian: Гродно, pl, Grodno; lt, Gardinas) or Hrodna ( be, Гродна ), is a city in western Belarus. The city is located on the Neman River, 300 km (186 mi) from Minsk, about 15 km (9 mi) from the Polish border and 30 km (19 mi) away from Lithuania. In 2019 the city had 373,547 inhabitants. Lechia Lwów (full name: ''Lwowski Klub Sportowy "Lechia" Lwów'') was the first Polish professional association football club, founded in summer 1903 in Lwów by students of the 3rd and 4th gymnasiums as well as former members of the Sokół football department. During the Second Republic of Poland the club was one of four teams from Lwów that played in the Polish Football First league (season 1931 – 12th). The club became two times champion of Lwów District League (liga okręgowa) where it spent 17 seasons. FC Neman Grodno ( be, ФК Нёман Гродна, ''FK Nyoman Hrodna''; russian: ФК Неман Гродно) is a Belarusian football club from the city of Grodno, named after the Neman River and was founded in 1964. Since 1992, the team has participated in the top league of Belarus. History Since 1964, the team was playing in the third tier of the Soviet football system almost constantly, excluding two seasons (1968 and 1969) spent in the second tier. Retro Liga
The Retro Liga is a footballing league in Poland. The first footballing competition took place in 2017, with the leagues inauguration taking place in 2019, 100 years after the formation of the Polish Football Association. Creation and rules The idea of the league was to play with the rules and equipment used in football at the time of the Polish Football Association's formation in 1919. The equipment includes traditional leather boots with wooden studs, cotton shirts, and leather balls were used. The game follows the same rules as those used in 1919, such as no cards, and players only being dismissed after serious foul play, and goalkeepers being able to pick the ball up from back passes. The league structure also went back to those of the pre-war years, such as 2 points for a win instead of the 3 points you get now.
