WKSC (AM)
WKSC (1300 AM) was a radio station licensed to Kershaw, South Carolina, United States. The station was owned by J. Stanley Griffin, through licensee Sound Ideas, LLC. The station was an affiliate of Scott Shannon's The True Oldies Channel from ABC Radio. It is no longer listed on the website. On May 17, 2010, WKSC returned to the air with talk. On January 22, 2013, WKSC went silent. The station's license was cancelled by the Federal Communications Commission on April 21, 2014. Kershaw, South Carolina
Kershaw is a town in Lancaster County, South Carolina, United States. It was incorporated in 1888. As of the 2010 census, the population was 1,803, and as of 2019 the estimated population was 2,321. The Haile Gold Mine, where gold was discovered in 1825, is from town and was at one time the largest single producer of gold in the Appalachian region. AM Broadcasting
AM broadcasting is radio broadcasting using amplitude modulation (AM) transmissions. It was the first method developed for making audio radio transmissions, and is still used worldwide, primarily for medium wave (also known as "AM band") transmissions, but also on the longwave and shortwave radio bands. The earliest experimental AM transmissions began in the early 1900s. However, widespread AM broadcasting was not established until the 1920s, following the development of vacuum tube receivers and transmitters. Michael Scott Shannon (born July 25, 1947) is an American radio disc jockey who hosted the morning show for WCBS-FM in New York City from 2014 to 2022 as well as ''Scott Shannon Presents America's Greatest Hits'' which is syndicated nationally with United Stations Radio Networks and Audacy. He previously worked for WHTZ, WPLJ, ''The True Oldies Channel'', and ''The Sean Hannity Show''. Early radio career Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Shannon grew up an Army brat in Indianapolis, Indiana. He began his radio career during his own Army stint at WFBS (1450 AM) in Spring Lake, North Carolina (later WMRV). From there he moved to WCLS (1580 AM) in Columbus, Georgia. After leaving the Army, Shannon worked full-time in radio at WABB in Mobile, Alabama, where he acquired the name Super Shan. The True Oldies Channel
Scott Shannon's True Oldies Channel (also known more recently as ''The True Oldies Channel: Greatest Hits'') is a radio network begun in the spring of 2004. Originally distributed by ABC Radio Networks via satellite, the service plays a hybrid oldies/classic hits format comprising music mostly from 1964 to 1979 but also plays selected cuts from the 1955-1963 era and also from the 1980s. As of September 22, 2016, it is distributed via United Stations Radio Networks. Prior to June 30, 2014; the service had over 100 affiliate stations across the United States. The service is available 24 hours a day online. Some stations ran the format full-time 24/7 while a few others ran it on overnights only. Cumulus Media Networks was an American radio network owned and operated by Cumulus Media. From 2011 until its merger with Westwood One, it controlled many of the radio assets formerly belonging to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), which was broken up in 2007; Cumulus owned the portion of the network that was purchased by Citadel Broadcasting that year.
