WKPQ (105.3 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Hornell, New York, United States, the station serves the Elmira-Corning area including the Canisteo valley and northern Pennsylvania. The station is currently owned by Sound Communications, LLC. of Corning, NY. History The station signed on in 1946 as WWHG-FM, owned by the W.H. Greenhow Co who also owned the Hornell Tribune newspaper. In the era of AM radio it did not do well financially, so the mission became to procure an AM signal. In 1949 WWHG began operation on 1590 with 500 Watts. Very shortly thereafter, WLEA 1320 kHz went into bankruptcy and discontinued operations. A Pennsylvania radio station operator, Cary Simpson, purchased the equipment, most of which was used to sign on WFRM-AM Coudersport, PA. WHHO (1320 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a sports talk format. Licensed to Hornell, New York, United States, the station served the Elmira- Corning area. The station was owned by Bilbat Radio, Inc. (at the time of closure, wholly owned by William Berry after the death of partner Bat Lyons). The station had been the home of Eric Massa's weekly radio broadcasts. Gene Burns, a Hornell native, began his long broadcasting career at the station. History In 1946, the W.H. Greenhow Co, owner of the '' Hornell Evening Tribune'', launched WWHG-FM 105.3 as Hornell's first radio station. The call letters WHG are the initials of the company. WWHG (105.9 FM) is a commercial mainstream rock radio station licensed to Evansville, Wisconsin and serving the areas of Madison and Janesville. The station is owned by Scott Thompson, through licensee Big Radio, and began a new rock music format as "105-9 The Hog" on January 13, 2007, after several years with a Rhythmic Top 40 format. History After being instituted a construction permit as WEBU in 1988, the station signed on with an adult contemporary format, and then classic rock, all under the call letters WMJB. After stunting with TV theme songs, the station flipped to rhythmic adult contemporary in the fall of 1997. WCBF (96.1 MHz, "95-96-97 Bigfoot Country") is an FM radio station licensed to Elmira, New York. It is owned by Seven Mountains Media and airs a country music format. History The station signed on the air as WENY-FM in 1965 at 92.7 FM as a sister station to WENY. The call letters WENY-FM had previously been assigned to another station in Elmira. It was licensed to the Elmira Star-Gazette, Incorporated, and began broadcasting November 1, 1948, on 106.9 MHz. It was a sister station to WENY, an AM station. In 1977, the station changed its call letters to WLEZ, and was playing adult contemporary music.
