WKLA is an AM radio station owned by Todd Mohr, through licensee Synergy Media, Inc. It broadcasts from Ludington, Michigan. It airs Westwood One's Good Time Oldies format and can be heard in a very small area around Ludington and Scottville. In late 2013 and early 2014, WKLA added two FM translators to extend its reach, 92.7 W224CA in Ludington (formerly a rebroadcaster of sister station WWKR) and 107.9 W300CG in Manistee (which has since moved to a different frequency and is simulcasting WKLA's sister station WMLQ). 92.7 covers a larger coverage area than 1450 AM. WKLA is also the home of Manistee Chippewas football and basketball despite the 1450 signal not reaching Manistee itself. Ludington ( ) is the largest city and county seat of Mason County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 8,076. Ludington is a harbor town located on Lake Michigan at the mouth of the Pere Marquette River. WMTE-FM (101.5 MHz "Eagle 101.5") is a radio station located in Manistee, Michigan, United States, and owned by 45 North Media, Inc. WMTE-FM airs an adult hits format and positions itself as Uniquely Northern Michigan. History The station was signed on in June 1994 by the original owner, Bay View Broadcasting. The original call letters were WXYQ and the station adopted an oldies format. Those call letters were previously used by an AM country station in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. WXYQ was sold to Crystal Clear Communications for $200,000.00 in January, 1997. When new stations arrived in 1999, the new FCC rules allowed WXYQ to be consolidated into the Lake Michigan Broadcasting Group. When the FCC transfer was approved for $380,000.00 in 2000, Lake Michigan Broadcasting changed the call letters. WMTE (1340 AM) was a radio station broadcasting a news/talk format. Licensed to Manistee, Michigan, it first began broadcasting on June 7, 1951 from facilities located on "Radio Hill" on the southern city limits of Manistee near the intersection of 10th and Olga Streets. The station surrendered its license on August 15, 2017. Profile The original radio station was housed in a World War II surplus prefab building erected at the transmitter site.
