WJKN-FM
WJKN-FM (89.3 FM, "The Arbor FM") is a non-commercial radio station located in Spring Arbor, Michigan. The station is owned by Spring Arbor University, a religious university associated with the Free Methodist Church. WJKN-FM began broadcasting in 2005 and took over the Power Praise FM format that had been on sister station WSAE. Power Praise FM was renamed "The Vibe" on 89.3 and was evolved from Christian Hot AC into Christian Hit Radio, featuring Christian rock and hip-hop artists mixed in with the Christian pop artists played on Power Praise FM. Like Power Praise FM, The Vibe also featured an air staff of Spring Arbor University students. In September 2008, WJKN-FM dropped the "Vibe" format and relaunched as ''89.3 The Message'', featuring a combination of adult-contemporary Christian music and teaching similar to competing station WUFN. Spring Arbor University
Spring Arbor University (SAU) is a private Free Methodist university in Spring Arbor, Michigan. Developing from an earlier academy and junior college, in 1963 it began offering bachelor's degrees. Attaining university status in 1994, it is the second-largest evangelical Christian university in Michigan. The university is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. History Spring Arbor University has developed in the late 20th century from a seminary founded in 1873 by leaders of the Free Methodist Church, particularly Edward Payson Hart. WJKN (1510 AM) is a non-commercial Catholic talk radio station in Jackson, Michigan, United States of America. WJKN is owned by Jackson-Lansing Catholic Radio and is rebroadcast on FM translator W227BY at 93.3 FM, also licensed to Jackson. History AM 1510 was a country music station for over three decades under several call signs, including WJCO, WDJD, and WHBT. The WJKN calls were adopted in 1995 and the format changed to a full-service combination of news, talk and adult contemporary music. In 1998, WJKN phased out music programming and became a predominantly news station. KTGG
KTGG (1540 AM) is a radio station broadcasting from Okemos, Michigan, with a Christian radio format of talk and classical music. It is owned by West Central Michigan Media Ministries and airs programming from Strong Tower Radio, a network heard on about a dozen radio stations around Michigan and one in Illinois. Because AM 1540 is a clear channel frequency reserved for Class A stations KXEL in Waterloo, Iowa, and ZNS-1 in Nassau, Bahamas, KTGG is a daytimer station. To avoid interference, it must sign off at night. By day it broadcasts at 450 watts and during critical hours (just before sunrise and just after sunset) it is powered at 219 watts. Spring Arbor is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jackson County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population of the CDP was 2,881 at the 2010 census, up from 2,188 at the 2000 census. The CDP is located within Spring Arbor Township. Spring Arbor is the home of Spring Arbor University, a liberal arts university affiliated with the Free Methodist Church. WUFN is an FM station in Albion, Michigan, on 96.7 MHz and WUNN is an AM station on 1110 kHz in Mason, Michigan. Both are non-commercial, Christian stations owned by Family Life Radio. Family Life Radio began in 1966 with a half-hour Christian program aimed at teenagers airing on WIBM-FM (now WWDK) on 94.1 in Jackson, Michigan. Warren and Char Bolthouse, founders of Family Life Radio, produced the program in a studio in the basement of their home on Jericho Road near the Kibby Road studio of WIBM. WIBM-FM had begun broadcasting in 1955, but was simulcasting WIBM-AM and had very few listeners.
