The ''Rockford Register Star'' is the primary daily newspaper of the Rockford, Illinois, metropolitan area. The fifth-highest circulation newspaper in Illinois, the Register Star takes its name from the 1979 merger of two predecessors, the ''Register Republic'' (founded , daily since ) and the ''Morning Star'' (founded ). The Register Star is currently owned by Gannett, which reacquired the paper upon merging with GateHouse Media in 2019. Gannett had previously owned the paper and its predecessors from 1967 to 2007. Headquarters The newspaper is published from the Register Star Tower at 99 East State Street in Downtown Rockford, Illinois. Printing operations moved to Milwaukee in April 2020. ''Unshackled!'' is a radio drama series produced by Pacific Garden Mission, in Chicago, Illinois, that first aired on September 23, 1950. It is one of the longest-running radio dramas in history and one of a very few still in production in the United States. The show is aired over 6,500 times around the world each week on over 1,550 radio outlets, and is translated and re-dramatized into eight languages on six continents. As of January 2022, over 3,707 episodes have been produced, each 30 minutes in length. ''Unshackled!'' is produced in the same way as shows during the Golden Age of Radio: Actors record dialogue live before a studio audience, an organist provides live incidental music, and a sound-effects person provides sounds in real time as the show progresses. Pacific Garden Mission
Pacific Garden Mission is a homeless shelter in the Near West Side, Chicago, Near West Side section of Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1877 by Colonel George Clarke and his wife, Sarah. Nicknamed "The Old Lighthouse", it is the largest homeless shelter in Chicago and among the oldest in the city, and, according to the PGM website, "is the oldest continuously operating rescue mission in the country." Among the converts to Christ from PGM's efforts are the famous evangelists Billy Sunday and Mel Trotter. Focus on the Family (FOTF or FotF) is a fundamentalist Protestant organization founded in 1977 in Southern California by James Dobson, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The group is one of a number of evangelical parachurch organizations that rose to prominence in the 1980s. As of the 2017 tax filing year, Focus on the Family declared itself to be a church, "primarily to protect the confidentiality of our donors."
