WIKY-FM
WIKY-FM (104.1 MHz) is a full-service/adult contemporary music radio station serving the Evansville, Indiana radio market. History The call letters WIKY debuted in 1948, when John A. Engelbrecht gained the FCC license for 820 AM. WIKY signed on August 4, 1948. The studios were on the west side of Evansville, in a unique building with the studios in the basement and the Engelbrecht residence upstairs. In 1953, Engelbrecht obtained one of the first FM licenses available, at 104.1 MHz. The 820 AM frequency was sold to University of Southern Indiana and continues operation as WSWI. Over the past 60 years, the Engelbrecht family maintained ownership of WIKY through their company South Central Communications, which owns 5 stations in Evansville, as well as radio stations in Nashville and Knoxville and a Muzak provider (South Central Sound). WLYD (93.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting a country music format. Licensed to Chandler, Indiana, United States, the station serves the Evansville area. The station is currently owned by Midwest Communications, Inc. and features programming from Westwood One. History The then-WJPS-FM broadcast an oldies format until February 2005, when South Central, looking to capitalize on Regent Broadcasting's change of WYNG 94.9 to Sports Talk under ESPN Radio, converted the station to a country format, and changed the call letters to WLFW. WSTO (96.1 FM, "Hot 96") is a radio station that serves the Evansville, Indiana, Owensboro, Kentucky, and Henderson, Kentucky markets with a contemporary hit radio format. It is licensed to Owensboro and broadcasts from a 1,000-foot tower strategically located midway between these cities in the Kentucky town of Hebbardsville. WSWI (820 AM) is a non-commercial educational radio station licensed to Evansville, Indiana, United States, carrying an alternative rock format known as "95.7 The Spin". Owned by the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern Indiana (USI), the campus radio station has studios and a transmitter site that are both located on the USI campus in Evansville. WSWI operates during the daytime hours only, thus in addition to a standard analog transmission, the station's format is broadcast continuously via a simulcast over the HD2 digital subchannel of WPSR and a relay over low-power analog translator W239CI (95.7 FM), along with being available online. Midwest Communications is a Wausau, Wisconsin-based radio broadcasting company. It owns 82 radio stations located primarily within the Midwest United States, in Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Tennessee, Illinois and Wisconsin.
