WGRM-FM (93.9 FM broadcasting, FM) was an American radio station city of license, licensed to serve the community of Greenwood, Mississippi, United States. The station, established in 1989 by Clay Ewing, was last owned and operated by Christian Broadcasters of Greenwood, Inc. WGRM-FM broadcasts to the northwestern central region of Mississippi. History Family tradition The Ewing family launched WGRM (AM), WGRM (1240 AM) in 1938 with studios in Grenada, Mississippi. The station, under the ownership of P.K. Ewing, Sr., relocated to Greenwood in 1939 beginning a six-decade history of Ewing family radio station ownership in Mississippi. WGRM (1240 AM broadcasting, AM) was an American radio station city of license, licensed to serve Greenwood, Mississippi, United States. Established in 1938 by P.K. Ewing, the station was owned by the Ewing family for 60 years. WGRM was last owned by Christian Broadcasting of Greenwood, Inc. WGRM broadcast to the northwestern central region of Mississippi. In the 1940s, the station aired live gospel performances by the Famous St. John's Quartet of Inverness, Mississippi, whose young guitarist would later find fame as B.B. King. Greenwood is a city in and the county seat of Leflore County, Mississippi, United States, located at the eastern edge of the Mississippi Delta region, approximately 96 miles north of the state capital, Jackson, and 130 miles south of the riverport of Memphis, Tennessee. Leflore County, Mississippi
Leflore County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 32,317. The county seat is Greenwood. The county is named for Choctaw leader Greenwood LeFlore, who signed a treaty to cede his people's land to the United States in exchange for land in Indian Territory. LeFlore stayed in Mississippi, settling on land reserved for him in Tallahatchie County. Leflore County is part of the Greenwood, MS Micropolitan Statistical Area. ''The Clarion Ledger'' is an American daily newspaper in Jackson, Mississippi. It is the second-oldest company in the state of Mississippi, and is one of the few newspapers in the nation that continues to circulate statewide. It is an operating division of Gannett River States Publishing Corporation, owned by Gannett. History The paper traces its roots to ''The Eastern Clarion,'' founded in Jasper County, Mississippi, in 1837. Later that year, it was sold and moved to Meridian, Mississippi. Bay Springs, Mississippi
Bay Springs is a city in and the western county seat of Jasper County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 1,786 at the 2010 census, down from 2,097 at the 2000 census. State highways 15 and 18 intersect at the city. It is part of the Laurel, Mississippi (in Jones County) micropolitan area. The area was settled in the 1880s by Joe Blankenship, who built the sawmill for the yellow pine timber industry that comprised the town's industrial base. The city was incorporated about twenty years later after railroads were constructed through it.
