WDIZ (590 AM) was a radio station broadcasting an active rock format. Licensed to Panama City, Florida, United States, the station was last owned by iHeartMedia. The station went on the air as WDLP in 1940, and operated until May 2020; its license was surrendered, under the WDDV call sign that had never been used on the air, that August. History In 1939, three businessmen, William J. Cook, Phil Roll, and Ed DeWitt, founded the Panama City Broadcasting Company. In June 1939, Cook put in an application for the construction of a 250-watt-day, 100-watt-night radio station on West Beach Drive, transmitting on 1200 kHz. WFLF-FM (94.5 FM) is a radio station broadcasting in Panama City, Florida, owned and operated by iHeartMedia. History WFLF-FM first signed on at 93.5 MHz in 1977 as WGCV, a station licensed to Port St Joe, Florida. In 1982, Don Crisp bought WGCV (as well as AM station WJOE 1080), moved, and upgraded the FM signal to 94.5 with 100 kW of power. The stations were sold in 1983 to Brown Broadcasting (affiliated with John Brown University of Siloam Springs, Arkansas). WGCV changed their calls to WJST. WJOE's calls were changed to WJBU, where they would stay until the station's last days in 1989. WJST was originally a rock station called "T-94". Initially, WJST was on a shorter, 500-foot tower (alongside WJBU), but in 1986 WJST moved to a 1,000-foot tower. WPAP (92.5 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station located in Panama City, Florida. WPAP airs a country music format. History WPAP began broadcast on March 7, 1967, as WDLP-FM, which was an FM translation of the popular AM station WDLP, with an ERP of 39 kW. On May 24, 1968, an application for assignment of the licences of both the FM and AM station were filed by a "Miracle Radio, Inc.". The station fell into their ownership later that year. In March 1969, the station was renamed WPAP-FM. To celebrate the new radio station, a concert was held at the City Auditorium on 4 April of that year, and featured Wilma Burgess, Archie Campbell, Lorene Mann, and Ray Pillow. Along with the call sign change, WPAP also became the first stereo FM station in the Florida Panhandle, thanks to strengthened equipment. WKGC (1480 AM) was a radio station licensed to Southport, Florida, United States. The station served the Panama City, Florida area. The station was last owned by Ron Hale, through licensee Ommni Broadcasting LLC. History WKGC began broadcasting in 1957 as WTHR, a popular music and weather station, and operated until 1962, when it went dark. This lasted for three years, until Don McCoy (later founder of Magic Broadcasting) helped launch WGNE (branded as ''Genie Radio'') once again as a popular music station, starting on 25 June 1965. Due to newfound success, in 1971, WGNE-FM went on the air, which proved more successful for the station than the AM signal previously had.
