WFSX (AM)
WFSX (1240 AM) was a commercial radio station licensed to Fort Myers, Florida. Last Owned by Sun Broadcasting. The station was also heard on translator W231DC, 94.1 FM in Fort Myers, and via WFSX-FM and WHEL's HD2 channels. History In 1939, a construction permit was issued to the Fort Myers Broadcasting Company to build a 250-watt radio station. WFTM (for Fort Myers) began broadcasting the following year, Southwest Florida's first radio station. It switched its call sign to WAAC in 1942, becoming an affiliate of the CBS Radio Network, airing its schedule of dramas, comedies, news, sports, soap operas, game shows and big band broadcasts during the Golden Age of Radio. The call letters changed to WINK in 1944, with a boost in power to 1,000 watts by day, but still running 250 watts at night. In 1954, Channel 11 WINK-TV went on the air. WREH
WREH (Reach FM) was a 100,000-watt FM station, broadcasting on 90.5 MHz. Its city of license was Cypress Quarters in Okeechobee County, Florida. The station went on the air in 2004. Reach Communications, ReachFM's parent company, was formed in association with Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. When it was active, ReachFM's programming was geared towards a diverse active Christian audience. According to its website, WREH's last day of programming was March 30, 2016. On February 15, 2017, Reach Communications informed the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that WREH had ceased broadcasting on February 10; on April 18, 2017, it surrendered the station's license, and the license was cancelled by the FCC on April 19, 2017. NBC Sports Radio was a sports radio network that debuted on September 4, 2012. The network content was produced by the NBC Sports Group division of NBCUniversal and distributed by Westwood One, which is the corporate successor to the remains of the original NBC Radio Network that was dissolved in the 1980s. WAXA
WAXA (1200 AM; "Maxima 97.3/95.7") was a radio station which broadcast a Spanish-language Tropical hits format. Licensed to Pine Island Center, Florida, United States, the station served the Fort Myers area. The station was last owned by Fort Myers Broadcasting Company. History WAXA signed on February 20, 1986, as WDCQ, offering an oldies format. It had changed to a talk format by 1992. An entry refers to "WDCQ Talk 1200". Fort Myers Broadcasting Company bought the station in 1995, with the sale not being completed until October 1996; soon afterward, the call letters were changed to WTLQ. Middle of the road (also known by its acronym MOR) is a commercial radio format and popular music genre. Music associated with this term is strongly melodic and uses techniques of vocal harmony and light orchestral arrangements. The format was eventually rebranded as soft adult contemporary.
