WFQY
WFQY is a classic hip-hop radio station, licensed to Brandon, Mississippi and serving the Jackson, Mississippi area. From July 2019 to June 2020, WFQY has been simulcasting WJMF-LP (87-7 The Bridge). The station began as WRKN in the late 1960s as a country station. Longtime owners were Roy and June Harris. For a short time the station had a 1950s based oldies format and also had a country gospel format for while. In later years it simulcast its sister station WRJH 97.7 FM with a Southern Gospel format. After WRJH was sold, WRKN AM continued to operate with a Southern Gospel format. After the retirement of the owner the station emerged as an affiliate of the "Real Country" network with classic country with call letters WZQK. On May 19, 2008, WZQK (Real Country 970) switched from classic country to all-sports. And the station's call letters became WJFN. Classic Hip Hop
Classic hip hop is a music radio format focusing primarily on hip hop music from the 1980s, 1990s, and the early to mid-2000s. Although stations with such a format date back as far as 2004, the format was first popularized in October 2014, after Radio One dropped a poorly performing news radio format from its Houston station KROI in favor of classic hip-hop. After attracting a dramatic increase in ratings, Radio One began to emulate the station's format and branding in other markets. At the same time, other major radio broadcasters began to introduce classic hip-hop stations in selected markets. WJMF-LD, virtual and VHF digital channel 6, is a low-power television station licensed to Jackson, Mississippi, United States. The station is owned by Rainey Radio. WJMF-LD's transmitter is located on Kerr Drive (off US 80) on Jackson's south side. Programming is currently unknown. History WJMF-LP was previously an affiliate of Univision, rebroadcasting a satellite feed of KUOK in Oklahoma City, a former sister station under Equity Media Holdings; consequently, WJMF-LP was Univision's sole affiliate in Mississippi, as well as the state's only Spanish-language TV station in general. Brandon is a city in and the county seat of Rankin County, Mississippi, United States. It was incorporated on December 19, 1831. The population was 21,705 at the 2010 census. Brandon is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is located east of the state capital. History The city is named for Gerard Brandon, Governor of Mississippi during the early 1800s. A newspaper, ''The News'', was established in 1892. The Brandon Bank was established in 1900, and The Rankin County Bank was established in 1906. Ridgeland, Mississippi
Ridgeland is a city in Madison County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 24,047 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi metropolitan area. History In 1805, the Choctaw Indian Agency, headed by Silas Dinsmoor, was located in what is now known as Ridgeland. There is also a neighborhood called Dinsmor in Ridgeland. The structure was then called Turner Brashear's Stand until about 1850. It was adapted for use as a hotel named the King's Inn. During the American Civil War, King's Inn was used as a headquarters by General Stephen Lee. Afterward, it again operated as a hotel until 1896, when it was destroyed by fire. In 1853, James B. Yellowley founded the community of Yellowley's Crossing (later named Jessamine after his wife). In 1896, Edward Treakle and Gordon Nichols, two real estate developers from Chicago, purchased the land from Yellowley and established the Highland Colony Company.
