WEXX (99.3 FM) is located in the Tri-Cities, TN area and is owned by Bristol Broadcasting Company. Known as "99.3 The X," it is an alternative rock music station with the slogan "Tri-Cities New Alternative." History In the late '80s and into the '90s the 99.3 frequency was country music-formatted WUSJ-FM "US99". In the late '90s, the station found popularity as "Electric 99.3," a Top 40 music station. In 2000, a format swap sent the "Electric" branding and format to 94.9 WAEZ, where it still is today. 99.3 then became an adult contemporary station, known as "MIX 99.3" until 2001. The station then flipped to rhythmic oldies as WPJO-FM, a format that lasted until 2003 when the current format took over. Most recently, Mediabase has moved the station to the active rock panel, under the callsign WTZR (Z-Rock), but the default active rock station is WRZK. KFRR
KFRR (104.1 FM) is a commercial alternative rock music radio station in Woodlake, California, broadcasting to the Fresno, California area. Its studios are located at One Putt Broadcasting in Downtown Fresno, across from the historic Warnors Theater, while the transmitter is at Eshom Point. History KFRR signed on the air in 1992 under the call letters of KFCL, as Fresno's first commercial classical music station. Two years later, the format was changed to adult contemporary with a change of call letters to KFRR K104-In-A-Row (where the station plays four songs in a row without commercial interruptions). The station had a huge amount of PR with giving away plastic "credit card style" cards which were branded with a unique number. The station would call out for a numbered card, and if that listener called in within 10 minutes, they'd receive a cash prize. "Bristol Broadcasting Company" is a radio station chain operating 29 stations in four Southern United States markets: the Tri-Cities area of upper-east Tennessee and southwest Virginia (receiving its name from the twin cities of Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee), Marion, Virginia, Paducah, Kentucky, and Charleston, West Virginia. In each market it operates a country music station with a rabbit mascot and the slogan "24 carrot country", a Top 40/CHR station under the title "Electric", and every News/Talk station carries the name "Super Talk". WAEZ
WAEZ (94.9 FM) is a United States Mainstream Top 40 radio station serving the Tri-Cities TN-VA Metropolitan Statistical Area with an ERP of 100,000 watts. It is licensed to Greeneville, Tennessee. The station started out as a Top 40 station until 2004, when the station went with a Hot AC format, but due to lower ratings, the station reverted to the Top 40 format in early 2006. WAEZ is owned by Bristol Broadcasting Company, along with "twin stations" WVSR-FM (Electric 102.7) in Charleston, West Virginia, and WDDJ-FM (Electric 96.9) in Paducah, Kentucky. The station targets active young adult females ages 18 to 34, according to Bristol Broadcasting. Electric 94.9 is one of the most popular stations in the Tri-Cities and currently ranks fourth in the Arbitron ratings for the Tri-Cities market.
