WADE (1340 kHz) is an AM radio station licensed to Wadesboro, North Carolina. It is owned by New Life Community Temple of Faith, Inc., and broadcasts an Urban Gospel radio format, with some Christian talk and teaching programs. WADE is simulcast with sister station WDEX 1430 AM in Monroe, North Carolina. History On July 23, 1947, WADE signed on for the first time. It was constructed by Risden Allen Lyon with the help of his father, Robert Phillip Lyon. WADE was originally a 1,000 watt daytimer radio station, operating at 1210 kilocycles and required to go off the air at sunset. The station had a 308-foot tower. At that time, with far fewer radio stations in the United States, the station's signal carried quite far. In the summer it was not unusual for station DJ's to advise listeners at Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, 125 miles away, that it was time to "turn so you don't burn." Monroe is a city in and the county seat of Union County, North Carolina, United States. The population increased from 32,797 in 2010 to 34,551 in 2020. It is within the rapidly growing Charlotte metropolitan area. Monroe has a council-manager form of government. History Monroe was founded as a planned settlement. Urban/contemporary gospel is a modern subgenre of gospel music. Southern gospel music is a genre of Christian music. Its name comes from its origins in the southeastern United States. WGIV (1370 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station licensed to Pineville, North Carolina, and serving the Charlotte metropolitan area. It airs an urban contemporary radio format. WGIV is owned by Frank Neely, but the station is operated by Steve Hedgwood's Core Communications, which owns a similar trimulcast in Atlanta of W233BF, WIPK and WFDR. By day, WGIV is powered at 16,000 watts. To protect other stations on 1370 AM, it greatly reduces power at night to 45 watts. WGIV is simulcast on FM translators W277CB at 103.3 MHz and W263CY at 100.5 MHz, both of which are licensed to Charlotte.
